New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed a bill that requires schools in the state to keep a supply of ephinephrine on hand.

The new law was approved by the state legislature in December and will go into effect later this year.

Law is a safety net for school officials

The law is meant to address the growing number of children with

food allergies

who attend public school. The law will give school nurses and trained officials the ability to legally treat students without worrying about possible lawsuits.

New Jersey joins the growing number of states across the nation that have adopted similar laws to improve school safety and give workers in schools the ability to react to emergencies involving anaphylaxis and allergies.
