The European Food Safety Authority is inviting comments from those interested on a draft scientific opinion for the evaluation of allergenic foods and food ingredients for labeling purposes.
The document is a new set of opinions on food ingredients or substances that are known to cause adverse reactions.
The draft opinion (read it here) includes information on food allergies in the population, proteins that have been identified as food allergens, cross-reactives, the effects of food processing on allergenicity, and methods for the detection of allergens.
The draft opinion then considers dosages and observations on allergic reactions and how they can be used to derive thresholds for food labeling.
Comments must be received by Aug. 8, 2014, and can be submitted using the guidelines found here.
