Peanut-Free Snacks That Everyone Will Enjoy

Perhaps it seems daunting that you will need to find peanut-free snack options for your child because he or she will be attending a "nut-free" or "peanut-free" school. Perhaps it seems daunting that your child, who is highly allergic to peanuts, will be leaving the confines of your peanut-free house for the first time to spend several hours at school where food will be consumed.

It is important to know that there is a plethora of snack options available in the aisles of your supermarket that you can provide to your child and you should not feel limited in options.

Keep in mind that cross-contamination is always a concern, especially for those with severe peanut allergy - just because something doesn't have peanuts listed as an ingredient doesn't mean that it is free of trace elements.

Following is a partial list of commercially available snack options that do not have peanuts listed as an ingredient:

Candy
Blow Pops, Hershey Kisses, Jolly Ranchers, Nerds, Skittles, Smarties, Spree, Tootsie Rolls
Cereal
Cheerios (not Honey Nut or Frosted), Chex, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Corn Flakes, Corn Pops, Crispix, Frosted Mini-Wheats, Kix, Lucky Charms, Wheaties
Chips
Cheetos, Doritos, Fritos, Pringles, Sun Chips, Tostitos
Crackers
Cheezi-Its, Cheese Nips, Goldfish, Graham Crackers, Saltines, Teddy Grahams, Triscuits, Wheatables, Wheat Thins
Cookies
Chips Ahoy, Fig Newtons, Fudge Stripes, Fudge Grahams, Oreos
Dairy/Cheese
Individual Yogurt and Pudding Cups, Cottage Cheese, String Cheese, Drinkable Yogurt

Always check product labels

Remember: even though the above list is peanut-free at this time, it is important to always check the product labeling in the event manufacturing processes change. A peanut-free snack today may not be a peanut-free snack tomorrow. It is definitely better to be safe than sorry.
