Okay, so since peanut butter is out of the question, what do other people use for sandwich spreads that's quick and easy and your kids like it?

We are going to stay away from any nut spreads (like almond butter) because our son may be allergic to other nuts.

It's time to get creative! Thanks,

--Tracy

Hi Tracy,
Believe it or not, my son loves Smuckers Strawberry Preserves on bread and eats "J" without the "PB." He also loves jelly toast in the mornings.
He also loves toasted ham and cheese open face sandwiches made in the toaster oven.

As a kid, I loved cream cheese and jelly sandwiches.
I've also heard of a product that's called soybutter and supposedly tastes like pb, but I've never tried it and don't know anything else about it. If you don't want your pn allergic kid to eat something that tastes like pb for fear of him making mistakes, it might at least be a good product for non-allergic siblings that had to give up pb.

I just wanted to ask again what bread does everyone use for these sandwiches? I have been using Wonder Bread but there is no number on the package and I can't find them in FAN's directory book either.

We've had good luck using Friehoffer's wheat and white breads. We've used other brands on occasion with no problem but stick to white, wheat or hotdog or hamburg rolls. I haven't used a commercial cinammon raisin bread because a lot of manufacturers make a nut cinammon raisin bread. We've never done store made or bakery bread for fear of cross-contamination (don't you hate that word by now?). And we have a breadmaker.

Patti, we use Nature's Own Butterbread (does contain soy flour for those allergic to soy).
My son also loves Cobblestone brand Apple Cinnamon Breakfast toast. We have never had a problem with it.

I have had soybutter at trade shows & it really is wonderful. They had just the spread and had also made rice crispie like treats out of it. Was really good. I haven't researched any companies yet - how do you get FANs directory? Will go home & get some recipes for all of you after I check the ingredients out - my daughter was just had her first reaction.

Joanne,
Have you called Friehoffer's to find out about their bread recently? We talked to them a couple of years ago and have stayed away from their all their products since then. They use a large number of various nuts in their plant and put some of them in products you wouldn't expect. For example their plain donuts are made with ground Filberts(which they also make for local convenience store chain in the NY area,Stewarts). After dealing with them we have been much to frightened to go anywhere's near their products.

Thanks Patti! I think I'm just too impatient to get all of my info sometimes. I feel like I need to figure this out & solve how we're going to deal with this right this minute. I'm driving my husband nuts (no pun intended)
