Delta Airlines-now peanut free

I called Delta Airlines to request a peanut-free flight. They said that all domestic Delta flights (including Delta Express and Delta Shuttle) no longer serve peanuts on their flights. They said that this policy has been in effect for the last 6-8 months.

I flew Delta to BWI in July. I called months in advance to request a peanut free flight but they refused to ensure a peanut free flight. When we got to the airport we explained the siduation to the Flight Attendance, and they didnt even load the peanut snacks on board. On the return flight three weeks later (in August) I made the same request, but they handed out a snack mix that listed peanuts as an ingredient.
I wrote a letter to John McCain the Chairman of the United States Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation. I posted portions of his response on the Legislation board titled Congress Rejects Peant Free Zone...
I hope you are correct, I no longer fly Delta due to this experience. I believe pulling peanuts from the entire airplane is the only way to ensure the safty of those with PA. My daughter is 4 and highly allergic, she has never had a reaction from airborn particals, but I always give her Benadryl an hour before we board. I clean the tray table, and wash her hands before she eats. I also carry at least two Epipens on board.
Please let me know how your flight went when you return.

I believe that you were misinformed. We were flying to Orlando from San Francisco and had made flights on Delta. When I called to see what their peanut policy was and if they had peanut free flights, they were incredibly rude and said that they would only guarantee that the few rows behind us would be peanut free. They said that they always serve peanuts. Even when I spoke to customer service they were rude...
The upshot is, we changed our flight reservations and now are flying United, which does not serve peanuts anymore.
I would not fly Delta.

Thanks for everyone for your responses. After I read your notes, I double checked with Delta. I spoke to a different person in customer service and they said that Delta IS NOT peanut-free. I am sorry for the misinformation. We have been holding tickets for 7 people since April for our first family vacation (also first family flight) to Disney in February.
We have an 8 year old allergic to peanuts and just found out, via RAST test, that one of our 3 year old triplets is also allergic to peanuts. Delta will not make any special efforts to guarantee a flight where they won't serve peanuts. They offered to return our airfare in full, due to medical reasons.
We have zero chance now of re-booking on another airline....Merry Christmas to you, too, Delta
P.S. I have asked Chris to modify the headline, so that no one books a flight on Delta in error. Apologizes, again.

I'm sorry to hear your experience with Delta was just as bad as mine. I say we all boycott Delta and fly United who respects our rights and is happy to accomodate us!

Today I called Delta Airlines, as I will be flying from Oregon to Oklahoma and Arkansas next month. They told me they could not guarantee a pnut free flight, but they would serve pretzels in the surrounding area. They were very nice, but I'm still scared. My 5 year old is smell sensitive, and I don't really want to take any chances.

I was told by the flight attendent on the last Delta flight I took that when they say they "cannot guarantee a peanut-free flight" they mean that they cannot guarantee other passengers will not bring their own peanuts onto the plane. Just FYI...

I have always had good experience flying with Delta. Even at 13 years old, I have been to many different places, all on Delta, because they handle my allergy so well. If you call ahead and ask them not to serve peanuts, they wont. Before I board the plan we again ask about the peanuts. One time there was a mix up and they did serve peanuts. But, they did not serve them unless requested. I think very highly of Dalta Airlines for their management of peanut allergies.

Since when are Delta airlines peanut free?! They are not! they refused to let my PA child fly and refunded our tickets. By phone (many calls), they said it was impossible to know which snack would be on the "rotation" and they could not pursue this matter any further! I also was told since they are based in Atlanta (peanut country?), they would never be p-free. It just wouldn't be PC!!

No nuts - we just had a similar situation with them, except instead of them refusing to let our son fly, we elected to cancel our tickets (full refund, of course). We found them to be extremely rude about the whole thing. We even wrote to both the VP of Customer Care (or whatever her title is) as well as the CEO and didn't even get the courtesy of a response. They clearly want even less to do with us than we want to do with them.
BOYCOTT DELTA!!!
BTW, the only other flight we could get was with Spirit, a little known carrier. Hopefully they won't crash, but they are peanut free!

Everytime I see a heading with "Delta" in the title, I always chime in.
My toddler son and I have traveled Delta Express from Boston to Orlando several times over the years. I have met the nicest customer service reps, ticket handlers, flight attendents, etc. I could possibly hope for.
The snacks they give out (I know nothing of the actual meals) seem to consist of one of two things. 1.) A snack mix with pretzels and other assorted crunchy-type things. Of course, the mix was intended to appease the peanut-lovers. The last time I checked, the ingredient label did not include peanuts or make mention of peanut warning. Since I am unable to contact the manufacturer I'll just assume there might be 'trace amounts' of peanuts. 2.) A snack pack consisting of a mini candy bar (3 Musketeers, so far) that Does have a warning label), a Nutrigrain cereal bar (no warning label, and my son loved it so much he eats them regularly now), and a package of crackers and cheese (Does have a warning label).
I'll be taking another trip to Orlando very soon and I'll most certainly be flying Delta Express. I'll post how my experience was.
Ah yes, and they also require a doctor's note explaining the epi-pen since it is a syringe. We went through security with it and nobody even noticed.
