Does anyone know of a safe brand of lollipops or other candies like gum drops, candy canes, taffy, etc.? Or where to purchase candy flavorings that are safe so that I can make my own candy? We love the Vermont Nut - Free chocolate, but my son is also very curious about lollipops and candy canes.

pI e-mailed the Spangler Candy Company back in April of 1999 regarding their "Dum Dum" Lollipops and their "Saf-T-Pops" and had gotten a prompt response advising these were peanut free products and this was their response: "These products do not share any line or equipment with our chocolate line. These products are not made on the same floor that our chocolates are and they take care to maintain a good separation between these lines. There are not any peanuts in the process or ingredients in the manufacturing of the Dum Dum and Saf-T-Pops."/p
pSince this information was received more than a year ago, you may want to contact them for your own peace of mind just in case the ingredients have changed./p
pAs for personal experience with my son, he has not had a problem with either lollipop./p
pStay Safe. /p

pI have given my son Dum-Dums with no trouble after getting a similar email from Spangler. FYI, the candy canes are also safe./p

pNot quite what you are looking for, probably, but we eat Red Vines brand licorice. I e-mailed them off their website at www.redvines.com and was assured they do not use peanuts or tree nuts in any of their products. You might want to check it out./p

pThe information about Spangler is on their web site http://www.spanglercandy.combr /
under the FAQ section. I'm starting to compile my Halloween safe candy list and I'm happy to say it's getting bigger and bigger./p
pThe Red Vines link isn't working. Any information on that company?/p

pSyd got a round (not flat)lollypop in a loot bag a couple of weeks back. It was made by The Candy Tree Co. out of Calgary, Alberta. Their number was on the lolly as being 1-800-668-7677./p
pThe flavour was "bubble gum" and the ingredients were stated as "sugar, glucose, artificial flavours, lactic acid, malic acid, artificial color and water. /p
pWhile personally enjoying the sucker while not being supervised by Syd, (they taste so good!) I called them and inquired about the sucker. The customer service rep. explained they make only these suckers, (I forgot to ask about all their other flavours) no natural ingredients, no nuts/peanuts in the factory, etc.. I asked where I could purchase them and she said they are sold at Canadian Tire stores at the cash check out, as well as at other stores across Canada. /p
pI'll ask the person who put it in the loot bag as to where she bought them, as it was such a quality sucker - I loved it myself and I'll post those selling locations as well. /p
pIf anyone else calls, can you post, to see if we get the same responses. I'd love someone else to call to see if they get the similar reply./p
pCheers,/p
