I recently went to a Denny's and discovered that they are now frying exclusively in peanut oil.
They DON'T note this on the menus, but they do mention that they're using a "new, trans-fat free" oil, which was what prompted me to ask.

Nice. We don't trust Denny's anyway but it's frustrating that the people who makes these decisions don't seem to know anything about the current prevalence of nut allergies.
WOW! Thanks for the heads up! We never have eaten their since I've pa DS but it is good to know for the future. I wonder because pn oil is trans-fat free that with the new laws in place to cut out trans-fat if this will be an issue at even more and more places....so frustrating!

I'm guessing not--the new fad oil seems to be sunflower (although I'm allergic to that, too, so personally, it's not much of an advantage).
Do you think that your server might have been mistaken? I just looked on the website and in the nutritional section, it said that Fryer oil is soybean.
He went and double-checked in the kitchen, so I'm going to assume that he's right.
Do you know how recently the website was last updated? Could be old info...

I'm really surprised they would go that route and select peanut oil. It's much more expensive than the alternative and since it's a very low priced chain, you would think they would pick the cheaper item.
I wonder if it's a regional thing? I will check ours out here. Also, I'm finding often that kitchens just tell the waitstaff to advise the customer that they use peanut oil, even when they really don't. Just because they don't want the liability of having to take precautions to make a safe meal.
It stinks, but if they are going to be like that I don't want to eat there anyway!

That's what I suspect as well. I get so irritated sometimes when people say it's peanut oil without checking. They shout out to someone in back and say, "Hey Joe, do we use peanut oil?" and Joe says "yeah" and they turn to me and say "yeah". But then when I ask to see the bottle myself, it says something else like soybean or canola.
I called our local denny's and they said no to peanut oil but the website does havea may contain warning for the pancakes.:(
I have never eaten at Denny's, but their website has a list of allergens. I didn't see any peanut allergens listed. Still, whenever I eat at restaurants it is best to ask.
