Hi there,
Just thought I'd let you all know that the Campbells Select Mexican/Torilla Soup has peanut oil in it. I almost bought it yesterday, but thankfully I reread the label before putting it in my cart. Campbells doesn't seem to label may contains and the lettering is so fine and small - it was easy to miss.

I was so disguisted (at myself and Campbells) that I returned the other soups I had planned to buy that did not contain the peanut oil.

I've made this recipe for tortilla soup 2x and it turned out really good both times. Out of 3 kids 2 liked it and one didn't, but my daughter (who didn't like it) wont eat anything spicy anyhow.
Thanks for the heads up on the Campbells soup.

I've actually bought that soup. I ended up giving it away.

It's going to be a little while until I can get to the store to look at this to see what it is.
Does this soup have a chicken base or tomato base?

I think it is a chicken base... Also, thanks for the recipe. I will give it the ole college try!

OMG! My DH bought a case of this at a Sam's Club and I had only opened ONE can in the last 6 months. The rest are sitting in my pantry. I just ran over...and sure enough. Peanut oil! YIKES! THank you Soooooo much for posting this!
As for Tortilla soup..
I used to live in Mexico and have a great recipe.
Roast 6-8 tomatoes
2 onions
1/4 to 1/2 head garlic until soft.
Remove skins from tomatoes.
Pure in blender the toasted veggies and a few jalapeno's in juice (the glass jar ones you can buy for nachos).
Put puree in a stock pot.
Add two large cartons of chicken broth, heat until boil, reduce and simmer.
Add sliced limes, cilantro, onions and feta cheese cubes.
Cut tortillas into strips. Heat in olive oil until crisp, add kosher salt to taste. SPrinkle in soup.

Ugh. I bought this for my DH and didn't even think to read the label. I've grown increasingly more frustrated with Campbell's in the last couple months. I got into with them early last year over labeling, but was I so new (and naive!) to PA that I took their word for their safety. I've now switched to Progresso (General Mills), Amy's, and homemade...which is always better anyway! Thanks for posting some recipes here!

Thank you for the warning. I bought a can and didn't read the label (dumb, now I know). The print is so s-m-a-l-l!

This one's been discussed, for sure. Thx for reminding us.
I have plenty of that kin in my drawer at work. Yeah... peanut oil.

I was assured yesterday by Campbell's that NONE of their products have peanuts in them. This makes me MAD!
