Help.
We go to the pediatrician tomorrow but I am sure she has a yeast infection. We were in the pool a lot last week so maybe she was in a wet suit too long. Anyway, I am going to check on medication safety (pn/tn free) and wanted to know if anyone had found a safe one.
Thx

my 1yr old gets yeast infections in her diaper area quite often. She doesn't have a nut allergy, but does to eggs and milk...anyways, I just apply monistat to her diaper area for about 4-5 days until it clears up....is that safe??? I just read the tube, nothing stated about allergens. It does say not to use *in* girls under 12....I've always just put it *on* the skin, like dr suggested. I also give her acidolphilus(sp?) in her cereal 2x's a day, that also helps clear things up and get her ph back to normal. Good luck

The best treatment for a yeast infection is a topical anti-yeast or antifungal cream such as Lotrimin AF, Nystatin, or Monistat. These are available without a prescription in the drugstore. Use it as directed on the label. The rash will take a few days to clear up.
We usually use Lotrimin AF for our daughter. It really does work fast. When she was a baby we would mix aquaphor and monistat on a diaper rash yeast infection.

I have not used any yeast treatments for my boys, only myself. But I do recommend starting acidopholous supplements right away. Get refrigerated ones at a health foo store. This is healthy bacteria normally found in the gut that keeps yeast populations under control. Also watch sugar intake. You can also have her eat yogurt with live cultures but preferably with as high a fat content as you can find...fat free won't work because the cultures are all dead without fat to survive on.

Seriously? I never heard this but how can they sell fat free yogurt and still put the certification of live cultures on the label? I don't buy fat free anyway (can't find fat free that isn't also sugar free and we don't do artificial sweeteners) but it's interesting to know. Wait, I do buy fat free plain sometimes. hmmm

Hmmm...not sure. I was told this a number of times as I have suffered with long term yeast problems while nursing and taken countless antifungals. All I could find quickly is this...
Try to buy yogurt that's less than a week old; it suffers a precipitous loss of live cultures after it's been sitting on the shelf for a while.
Not sure if some fat slows this process down perhaps? Anyhow I prefer a combo of yogurt and supplements, lowering sugar intake and a vinegar rinse helps ease discomfort as well (1TBSP distilled vinegar to 1 cup boiled water I think?)
