I just made homemade caramel sauce and realized that some of the ingredients I didn't go any farther than to read the labels. I had dark Karo syrup and sweetened condensed milk. Is there a peanut risk in either of these? Labels didn't list anything but I know I've had the syrup for a while.

I've read here that Karo syrup is made in a peanut-free facility, though I haven't called them myself. What brand of sweetened condensed milk? Nestle labels well in general.

The caramel sauce is easy, I just put it on my apple crisp this noon! It makes about 3 cups.
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup dark Karo syrup
Cook until soft ball stage. remove from heat and add:
1 can sweetened condensed milk (I used nestle)
1/2 cup margarine
1 tsp vanilla
Return to heat. Bring back up to a boil. Then remove from heat.
Use on ice cream, desserts, popcorn, etc.
I only put the recipe in here because you asked for it and I thougth you might check back for it! I can put it in the recipes too if you want!!

Yum! My dd's never had caramel. I bet she would also love to dip apples in it.
Thanks for the recipe! We'll be making some over the weekend
