My son's class has been studying Mexico and they wrapped up the module with a "fiesta."
I checked ahead of time - all food was to be peanut-free (although I would consider it may-contains). I made sure he had a safe burrito and chips and salsa.
The kids made "passports" for the party, which had sections for stickers that they could earn by visiting different stations. There were sixteen stations in all, and most were different craft stations. (I was in charge of helping the kids make maracas) Most of the kids, including mine, were trying to get all 16 stickers.
Well, one of the "stations" was the quesadilla making station. I hadn't realized that they'd be required to eat a quesadilla to get their star, so I hadn't checked the ingredients. Bleh!
I ended up telling him that he could get credit for eating the burrito instead, and gave him a star myself from my stash. It didn't seem worth trying to argue with anyone about.
He seemed okay with it, as long as he got all 16 slots filled. But it's frustrating the things you can't anticipate.
