Not to make light of the situation with allergies...but are any of you up for sharing stories about friends, family, neighbors...."what were they thinking"?????????
I have a couple I can think of. My Grandma wanted to make peanut-butter bars for thanksgiving 2 years ago. I told her she could, but to please keep them up and only serve them after we left. So a day or so later she calls me, "I have it worked out with the peanut-butter bars" Okay, I was thinking more along the lines of she's just not going to make them, that would be really nice! But she replies to me "I made them *creamy* peanut-butter, so there's no nuts and they'll be safe for Jake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

and my last one, last Easter our enighbros had family over, a pretty wild nephew along with their own 2 boys. We'll I glance out the window, I can hear a bunch of hooting and halloring and notice they are having a hard boiled egg fight! Picking them up and throwing then at eachother, bomb-like explosions everywhere! We came out afterwards and I looked around...there was broken up egg from one end of the cul-de-sac to the toher, I was horrified(have 2 egg allergy boys that carry Epipens!_So I freak out, scream at my kids to get in the house NOW!!! The neighbor did walk over and ask if something was wrong, I explained that my street is covered with the very food that can kill them, I about died!!!
In the end they got the pressure washer and cleaned evertyhing up!!
Yes, I once received a letter from executive offices of Frontier Airlines after I complained about my flight not being peanut free.
The letter said, Frontier Airlines is peanut free. You compained about PBJ sandwiches being served. We do not consider PBJ sandwiches to be peanut products.

or the people who respond to you after you tell them your child has PA, oh but they can eat PB, right?

I can't tell you the number of times someone has commented about PB being okay for DS...b/c it isn't peanuts....I guess I never fully believed that half the population had an IQ of under 100...but I think it IS true! Geesh!
Or how about our very well-meaning neighbor who belatedly recalled that our trick-or-treating 3yo was PA.... said, "Oh, that's right. You can't have that." Gently took the king-sized Baby Ruth out of her plastic pumpkin, and thoughtfully replaced it with..... (drum roll please) [i]A BUTTERFINGER.[/i] Thoroughly gobsmacked, I think said we something polite... and threw the whole pumpkin in the trash.

My mom buying preztels for the kids for Halloween made by the "THE KING NUT COMPANY" and saying "Oh, didn't realize...".

Here's one. I just love it when you are put into the situation to explain that your children have a PA/TNA allergy, and they reply-----oh, I know. I have such allergies too, hayfever, pollen,etc... This has happened more than once. They just think that my kids get stuffy noses or something. Just very irratating and exhausting.

How about DD's Kindergarten teacher who assured me several times that she had no peanut products in her classroom....
Well, I discovered one day that she was giving out Reese's peanutbutter cups to the kids on Fridays.
Her reply when I confronted her with the fact that Reese's peanutbutter cups contain peanuts was, "Oh! Well--your DD is so smart, she always chooses a toy."
i have mentioned this here before but i've had a sonic carhop assure me the girls could have a shake there. when i told him they could have nothing containing peanuts or that could have possible cross contamination by peanuts he said....
"oh...don't worry ma'am. i told you. we don't use peanuts here. just peanut butter." (i suppose it's in the pb shakes??? or in some kind of pb sauce they have????)

besides being a totally ridiculous comment, they DO serve peanuts on top of their ice cream items if you ask for them.
also....my husand eats at a particular chinese restaurant and told me he had a long talk with the owner who assured him the girls could safely eat there. i told him it was unlikely that the owner and kitchen staff had any idea what he was even asking them (because this has been my experience 99.999999% of the time in any type of asian restaurant).
husband pulled rank and said we WERE taking the girls to the chinese restaurant and got their hopes all up on the way. i reminded the girls that i had every intention of asking my own questions and touring the kitchen if necessary and would pull even higher rank if need be. they were so happy about getting to go and i told my husband he was putting them in a terrible position (not to mention me...who would have to be the "bad guy" once again if it turned out to be a bad situation....).
i actually had no intention of letting them eat there even if it "seemed" safe...even if i had to make up something but i had to see for myself and he already had the girls in the car assuring them he was taking them for their first of many "safe" chinese meals there.
upon entering the restaurant, i looked over the menu on the counter (without bringing the girls in...they stayed in the car with dad) and immediately found at least two dishes with peanuts and another dish with peanut sauce. when i questioned the owner, his wife and the cook they assured me that they could prepare the foods without peanuts and peanut sauce (told you they didn't have a clue). when i asked if the peanuts and sauces were in packages they proudly said, "no!!!....we have the peanuts here (all over the place) and we make the sauce ourselves and they proceeded to show me the large jars of peanut butter they used to make the sauce in the very same pans they use to make everything else.
would someone please give my husband his sign??????
of course the girls cried and cried but it was a valuable lesson to them. you don't accept answers without verifying for yourself. every. single. time.
and, no. we don't listen to dad's advice about restaurant safety any more. period.

Our school has sleep away camps for the 4th and 5th graders... an overnight for the 4th graders, and a 5 day, 4 night one for the 5th graders.
In the paperwork they sent out this year, they droned on and on about fostering independence.
How is having my DH take 2 days off of work this school year, and a week off next school year, so I can accompany Jason to these camps, and having to haul food back and forth, fostering independence.
Nope, he's not going. Let them think that I'm being paranoid.
