I recently read a warning label that said "May contain allergens not listed in ingredients." Like what? Bee venom? Penicillin? I hate this CYA labeling!

[b]It's not surprising. Haven't you noticed how many different varieties of frozen veggie dishes there are now? Green beans almondine, stir fry mixes with noodles & sauce, broccoli with cheese sauce, etc.

Actually, no. I had not really noticed this partly because I buy virtually NO convenience items from frozen food section -- so I often go months without ever going down those aisles. I've also been living in a MUCH smaller community for past few years, so the selections/offerings in those stores were more simple.
Time to pay attention to how much more glop there is out there to buy, I guess!
Anyone wanna teach me how to QUICKLY French cut my own green beans (from fresh)?? Time to splurge on that mandoline (sp?) I've wanted for years now?
Sigh.

I'm sure I've seen some gadget to french cut green beans-maybe in a Chef's catalog (they have a website http://www.chefscatalog.com or something like that). I didn't pay much attention since we like the fat cut ones in the can.

Wal Mart is so cheesy in general, this is just another reason for me to avoid it. Shopping there gives me the creeps, anyway.
Christabelle - you crack me up!
I noticed too Walmart puts warnings on EVERYTHING.. even if it doesn't make sense. (Watch - it will be on the soda soon) It's definitely overkill... and protecting their butt. I am done shopping there for food.

[b]Thanks for the heads up! I've also started noticing small mystery reactions to veggies lately. I thought she might be developing an allergy to all legumes. Hmmm...
I was surprised a few months ago when I saw a may contain warning on Trader Joe bagged lettuce.
Guess it goes to show, we really do have to double check EVERYTHING!

You know, I called them on that (the Monrovia, CA office) and they said it had to do with how the veggies were packed and sorted. I asked specifically about their baby spinach. I was told that the plant that handles packing the bags also packs bags of peanuts/nuts and there is a chance for a bag of peanut/nuts to explode or break open. Since, the lettuce/spinach bags have micro-holes for the veggies to breathe...peanut/nut dust can get in.
So...not really CYA by Trader Joes...just informing the consumer. I appreciated what she told me, and I no longer eat the spinach.

Some of the bags of lettuce/spinach come with little bags of nuts to put on your salad...so this makes sense to me.
Bummer though!
