Hi Everyone.

I just discovered this board and find it to be very informative and interesting.

I have a question for anyone. My son has a PA on the cap test he is a 48. He will start kindergarden in 2008 and I want to start to ball rolling to have every teacher and bus driver trained to use an epi-pen. I also want and epi-pen to be in the class room and not at the nurses office and one on the bus. Has anyone gone through this already? I welcom thoughts and suggestions. Thanks.

Hi and Welcome!!
Go to the schools topics and find ones about 504 plans. You will find many different types of schools, some are more open, others are not.
Don't get discouraged. Our DD started kindergarten this year. She carries her own epi's and Benadryl at all times. Every employee in the school is trained on signs, symptoms, and how to use epi. That includes bus drivers, substitutes, cafeteria workers, etc...
The reason she carries it, even though she cannot self inject, is due to the bus ride (it can't be kept on the bus due to the change in weather temperatures), and they have done "lockdowns" at the school to prepare for the bad stuff that may happen. As well as the 504 team just felt that this was the BEST option.
Start reading and getting ideas. I am not sure if the school will talk to you quite yet.
Good Luck!!

Thank you for your reply. What great ideas! I didn't even think of that with the temp for the epi. I will ask for him to carry it with him. Thanks
Any chance any of you are from Vernon, NJ then you can help me along with this? The more support the better.
Thanks

I am not from New Jersey, but I thought you'd like to know that your son has the right to carry his epipen in New Jersey:
