Hi everybody,
This weekend we fly with our daughter for the first time since we discovered her anaphylaxis to peanut.
I would really appreciate whatever tips and information people could provide as we prepare.
Thanks!
NP.

It Takes A Village ...
there was a really great thread that I read about this...is there a "travel" section ? It might be in there....someone posted step by step instructions on what to do it was amazing... I'll try to find it for you ...there is a way to search.
I have not flown yet with my son.
I found two good threads.
Flying ?'s is really good. There is also a section of threads titles "Airlines" that you might want to check out.
Good luck
Thanks ... the information was great ... esp getting a doctor's note to let the airline know that we have to carry an EpiPen ... that is important!
What airline will you be flying and will they be passing out peanuts? That is really important to know in advance.
West Jet. Seems that we are okay with our EpiPen as long as the prescription is affixed and bears our daughter's name.
Here is their policy on nuts (seems fair):
"... nor can we guarantee a nut-free environment in the aircraft as guests are allowed to bring their own food onboard. We do not serve peanuts as snacks; however, we may occasionally sell or provide other snacks containing nuts (i.e. cashews, Brazil nuts)."
Looks good. I don`t have a problem with tree nuts being served, although some on this board do. My dd has been tested and is not tna.
We are flying West Jet on Monday from Toronto to Florida. We did get a note from the dr. and I got the drugstore to reprint the labels so I could put them on the epi pen container, since the boxes were long gone. I just plan on wiping down the trays etc. really well, informing airline staff and of course our own food. Will be interested to know how your flight went as well!!
Sure thing ... it's kind of scary on one hand but we'll be prepared. One thing I read suggested a fitted crib sheet for over the chair ... not a bad idea actually. They do not offer 'peanut free' flights but they have indicated that they will make an announcement and let us board first.
We haven't flown West Jet with DD yet, but we did go Air Canada to Florida at Christmas. As we have no extra health coverage (self-employed) we do not have a prescription for her Epi's - we just get them over the counter. No Dr's name, pharmacy, or patient name.
We had no problem with security either direction because of a lack of labelling. She had them in the ziplock bag, along with her hand sani and lotion. On the return trip, security told her that the Epi didn't need to be in the ziplock. Wasn't sure about that statement, but she likes to keep them together anyway.
So today was very interesting. We flew this morning and I was prepared. Though there were no incidents, per se, I was not happy with the service from the airline.
It could be that customer service set a false expectation yesterday, but I found that West Jet staff were more concerned with covering legal exposure than actually creating a safer environment.
This was surprising to me given West Jet's 'friendly' image.
I have a long post on my blog (it's call Air Peanut) so I won't digress ... here's the URL:
