Common for schools to serve PBJ in K-4?

Our school district serves the PB&J Uncrustables, they come frozen in packages, then thawed and given to the kids. They are served every Monday(so at least that is consistant)....
I know a neighboring district has PB&J's as a non-meat alternative..so it is made and served when needed, any day...I don't like that personally.
Our set up is good, the peanut-free moms are happy and the pb-eaters are still happy, we all win.

My school district serves Uncrustables PB&J daily but no other nut products. (Like previous poster, they're provided as a meat alternative.)

our school serves ZERO pb&j sandwiches and no other peanut or nut products either! [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/smile.gif[/img] we are very lucky. kids can bring pb and peanut items from home in their lunch boxes but all children with lunches from home eat on one side of the cafeteria and all kids who purchase a try sit on the other side. my PA 2nd grader gets to eat among the kids with lunch trays (at the farthest point from the lunchboxes) regardless of whether she brings lunch from home or eats a school lunch.
years ago our school served pb&j sandwiches daily to children who were behind on their lunch payments. when my two PA girls entered the school system, they eventually phased those out and replaced them first with cheese sandwiches and then later with sunbutter sandwiches.
i didn't realize so many schools had pb&j on the menu. seems kind of "behind the times", imo. we live in a teeny, tiny little missouri town and our school is very progressive in terms of food allergies, comparatively speaking it seems.

At our K-1 school, they usually serve peanut butter about twice a month. At the grades 2-5 school, they often give a choice between 2 entrees, so they serve peanut butter a little more often, but actually not every week. I've seen school websites where a peanut butter sandwich is a choice every day.

It is a menu alternate.
Most private schools locally do so as well. (And to the best of my knowledge, they are [i]not[/i] prepackaged. They are made on site.)
Two friends with children in K-5 schools BOTH report to me that in K-4, on any given day, 50-70% of children in the cafeteria are eating PB. This is no exaggeration, as neither person ever gave it a second thought until they got to know my DD. [i]That[/i] was when they made the observation and reported it to me as an offhand remarked (which I questioned as to accuracy). Both moms report large number of "observations" and stick by their estimates. Two different elementary schools, two different socio-economic demographics.
I have heard of [i]ONE[/i] child within this school district who sits at a "peanut free" table. The child is reportedly 'very allergic.' This is considered 'exceptional' management by my SD.

Our school here in CT, as well as the school DD went to in AZ have PBJ as a choice daily (actually, since last year, it is not available on Wednesday).
