new school year

same here, our school usually starts the Monday after we find out who the teacher is(posted on the door on Friday). So technically, I can't meet with the teacher prior to him coming into class!!! I do have a 504(almost, still working on accommodations) so that is *supposedly* given to the teacher prior to my son coming in, but I just don't get a good vibe about it myself. I do plan on trying to email the teacher the minute I find out(even over the weekend, I don't care). If not, I'll be there the 1st day of class, to make sure the 504 was gone over etc...if not, he will not stay(I've made that clear).

At our school any child who needs medication (ie epi)fills out a form and turns it in before the end of the current school year for next year.
Mid summer I get a call from the health clerk and we set up a meeting for before the new school year.
We also usually don't learn who our teachers are until a week before classes, but those with IEPs, 504s, and medical issues are notified much earlier and a meeting with the teacher, district nurse, and health clerk is set up.

my son is in kdg - it is an all day every other day program so we have dealt with the cafeteria thing this year. We met with the principal, cafeteria person,school nurse and counselor in the spring one full year before he would enter school. then we met last march - the actual spring before he entered - they had chosen his teacher and invited her to the meeting too - we hashed out many ideas and came up with a "plan" -- we have no official 504 or anything so far.
Our year has gone great - better than expected. I will email the principal after spring break to set up a meeting with him, the kdg teacher and the proposed first greade teacher - this way we can review this year and make any necessary changes - i feel the kdg teacher will be very supportive of how it was done this year -- my son has not - to this point- voiced any concerns over his allergies at school. is it exactly what I wanted 2 years ago - No but it is great and it is working and I have NO stress about it -- and I think i am pretty conservative and strict in my comfort zones.

Get yourself a 504 and all this is *under control*...seriously. I am 1/2 done with mine and I can't wait for next year, we WILL be ready this time!! At the beginning of this year, there were alot of tears form me, alot of eating lunch with my son...it took 1 letter tot he teacher and she made some great changes, in one night, but it didn't address evertyhing. The 504 addresses everything, it is a legal document that the school followes, per YOU!
Search 504's, contact your doctor, but right now if the perfect time to get this going. Good luck
