I just received an email from a member of a local support group. Here's what she said..

I recently purchased Cetaphil cleanser for my daughter. Attached to the cleanser was a "free" bonus lotion. Well, we put the bonus lotion on & the itch was crazy -- my daughter (age 9) looked at the ingredients on the lotion bottle & sure enough it's made with madamia nut oil ... my daughter has a tree nut allergy. I never even thought to check the package because the reason we use Cetaphil in the 1st place is because of all her allegeries to soaps, etc...

Yep, our ped office had that same type out on the counter as samples. I had picked them up but never used them on DD- when we got diagnosed I started checking lotions, soaps, shampoos, etc...found those and threw them away! One of the dove soaps used to/might still have almond oil...I haven't seen it lately I'm wondering if they reformulated?

I just threw my Cetaphil moiturizing cream away because it had almond oil in it. My DS first allergist recommended it, I guess the dr. forgot that my DS is TN.

Yes they did change the dove soaps. They got rid of the unscented and now carry the sensitive skin formula which used to have almond oil but now it doesn't. I stopped buying it because I don't know if they could be cross contamination by using same machines which may have almond oil residue on it. I used to by the unscented. I thought I would never say this but now I use Ivory and I actually like it.

We have been using the Equate (Wal-Mart) version of Cetaphil all along! Yikes! Vincent is allergic to tree nuts (not sure of macadamia specifically ~ good thing we have an allergist appt in 90 min!).
I just checked our Equate cleanser and it doesn't have macadamia nut oil in it, but the Equate lotion does. I wonder if that's why Vincent's eczema hasn't gotten any better???

Is there a government organization -- similar to the FDA -- that oversees cosmetics and lotions? I am getting so ticked off over all the new lotions and products that contain nut oils.
There is no law about labeling a cosmetic product for possibly allergens, but THERE SHOULD BE!!!
Who in the USA oversees that sort of stuff? Does anybody know?

Cetaphil Cleansers do not contain nut oils.

Some Cetaphil Moisturizers do.

FDA has authority over cosmetics.

wow, am I ever glad I stumbled upon this post & this site. I use this product all the time & encourage my PA child to use it. I never would have thought about this (I'm new to the allergy & better wake up!) I had only been thinking in terms of food products!!
