The Bill passed the Full House and is now on it's way this week 03/20 - 3/24 to Finance Ways & Means. I just wanted to keep everyone in the loop of what is going on with the bill.

"Bill Summary for *HB2442 / SB2883
This bill would require the department of education to develop guidelines for the management of students with life-threatening food allergies no later than January 1, 2007. These guidelines would include, but not be limited to:
(1) Education and training of school personnel on proper medication procedures and care for students with such allergies;
(2) Procedures for responding to allergic reactions;
(3) Development of individualized health care and action plans for every student with such an allergy; and
(4) Protocols to prevent allergen exposure.
Based on these guidelines, this bill would require each LEA to implement, by July 1, 2007, a management plan for students suffering from such allergies."

Thank You! We need as much help as we can get from everyone! The bill is not as strict and as tough as I would like it, but it is a start. I have attached a copy of "Brentson's Law" that I wanted to be proposed into legislation. However, I was told that we had to start with broad legislation and then go from there.

I will get all of the email information that I have together for the state of Texas and forward it on to you. I know that my son will not be going back to the "Metro Nashville Public Schools" anytime soon. There has to be a lot more done, than just this legislation that we've proposed in front of the House of Representatives to keep "Our Children" safe! There has to be an extremely tough and strict law passed with out any loop holes, or anyway for the school districts to get out of doing what is right to protect "Our Children!"

laura
i just read over the bill that passed in your state ! way to go!
its nuts that you need to get a law to pass to get a school to do this for a child with a life thretining allergy. our sons school does all of this for us because it is there pollicy. i hope this passes in all of the states. ill write to hillary rodham clinton and charles schumer again to pressure them to adopt this for the state of ny. for all the kids who dont have a school that wants to protect them....
great job
