So we've just moved cross country and as we're settling in I start asking my neighbor who has small children about preschools etc. Miles won't be attending for a while (he's 17 months) but I want to get a jump on finding a nut free preschool and if neccessary get on a waiting list.
My neighbor is a 3rd year med student and actually quite knowledgable re: food allergies. She tells me the preschool that her youngest attends is nut free and very strict about it.
Then she goes on to tell me that one of the mothers of a kid in her son's class had sent a pb sandwich to school but had disguised it around the edges, and if questioned told her kid to LIE about it. The school found out obviously and sent a strongly worded letter home with all the kids saying that if anyone is caught doing this they will be asked to leave for good.
Can you believe that someone would instruct their child to LIE about this? Can you believe the school didn't ask them to leave straight away? I know that people are lazy and stupid and selfish when it comes to PA but this is criminal.
yes. i can believe it.
but i think it's horrible. teaching your child to lie is awful in itself. teaching them to lie about something that could harm a friend or classmate is even more hideous.
mean people stink.
OMG! That is horrible! I can't believe people would stoop so low just so their kid can eat PB. Geesh, its not like they can never eat it. What, aren't they only in the presschool for like 2-3 hours? They could eat it at home. That is just terrible. I wonder if that Mom has a heart. nothing suprises me anymore
but thank goodness that the school wont put up with that kind of nonsence, koodos for that school. i whish the school i took my son out of was that strict about the no peanut rule.
What a terrible thing to teach a child! They are taught to break the rules when they don't *like* them. But will be the first person to have a fit if someone breaks a rule important to *them*. This is the type of child that will probably grow up and chase other kids around with their PB sandwich. After all, they learned the behavior at home...
On a brighter note, sounds like you have a good lead on a preschool. And what a bonus...having a Med student for a neighbor.
Have a good day,
Daisy
I was in line the other day chatting away with a friend about dd's PA. She was with a friend, we didn't know each other, so she explained that my dd has PA.
So this girl, that I don't know, tells me how she used to go to school with a girl that had PA. She was "supposedly" so sensitive that she would have a reaction if you talked to her after eating peanuts. Said she couldn't stand the PA girl or her mother. They were always the head of everything and very snobby.
So, she used to bring in foods with nuts in it especially, that way she could say "oh, I'm sorry, I forgot- guess you can't eat it."
Ick. That friend of a friend who brought the peanuty stuff...
too bad that PA girl and her mom were probably too above the fray to sock her in the nose. A few punches bloody and I bet she wouldn't "forget" about the PA.
Yeah, I know, don't even jump on me. Violence solves nothing. Except, some times IT DOES. Some people just NEED a good ol' fashioned sock in the nose. Like jealous bullies who are substandard examples of human beings.
You're kidding. She did that out of spite b/c she hated those people? Wow. It never ceases to amaze me how vicious some people can be.
All of this scares the poop out of me for when my guy goes off to school...
