Hi, I'm new to this site. I developed a severe allergic reaction to something about 8 years ago. I was out eating pizza at a restaurant and later that evening ended up in the Emergency room and being told I had a severe allergic reaction. I spent the evening being injected with epinephrine and given steroids.I was told to always carry an EPi-Pen at all times and wear a medical ID bracelet. Long story short I've never been allergic to anything food nor drugs since I was little. I have adult onset allergies. I was told to visit an allergist was food tested and animal tested. Showed positive for Peanut and Pork. I've eaten that all my life up till the night of my severe reaction. Since then I've avoided those foods altogether fearing for a severe rection. However, this past week I cooked popcorn in a popcorn maker and after eating a few bowls worth realized I was cooking it in 100% peanut oil!(This popcorn maker was a gift from my mother and I assumed she would not have given me peanut oil if she knew ) So, the weird thing is I had no reaction whatsoever and I'm wondering if I really am allergic to peanuts? Has anyone ever outgrown a peanut allergy that has developed it later in life? I'm wondering if I showed get my allergy food tests conducted again, or if I'm safe to eat Peanuts?

Hello mwood, Welcome! Refined peanut oil supposedly doesn't have enough peanut protein in it to cause a reaction. So, I'm guessing this is why you didn't react to it.
However, most of us here on PA.com avoid peanut oil as it is not all 'refined'. Health food stores, etc. do sell unrefined peanut oil. My rule is, if I don't know what kind it is, I don't eat it.
I'm also adult-onset PA. I haven't heard yet of anyone with adult-onset PA outgrowing it - but miracles can happen!
If you check the manufacturer's forum, you'll find lots of good info on safe (& unsafe) food. I hope you stay a while and share your experiences as an adult with PA.
Cheers,
Adele
