Tell me about him. Do you like him for an allergist? Does he take time at the visits?
Thanks!

Dr. Wood is great. He is very concerned about his patients and takes time out of his busy schedule to talk to you. He had more time to spend with patients when he had his suburban office (and not just his JHU office) but he is still accessible. He has PA too so he's very interested in finding a cure. He's on the cutting edge of research and has a lot of good advice. My only complaint is that it's difficult to get an appointment with him. He's already booked through mid-November.

We go to Dr. Wood and in fact we were just there last week. It was the first time that we had a visit with him at the downtown location. Prior to this, we saw him at the office in Lutherville where things were a bit more personal.
His office now is in the outpatient pediatric area which is a pretty busy place.
All of that being said however, all of our needs were met and that office staff was organized, friendly and have the whole operation amazingly down to a science!
I consider us to be so lucky that we live in an area so close to one of the top specialists in peanut allergy. If you have an opportunity to see Dr. Wood, I would certainly encourage you to do so. After all, he is at the forefront of all of the research! He does take the time to talk to you and explain everything to you. He also, makes sure you have a chance to ask him your questions (have a list ready).
I have never had trouble getting in touch with him if I've had a concern, and I do feel confident that all the information that he gives to me is very accurate and up to date.
So, bottom line is, if you have the opportunity to see Dr. Wood, I would definately advise it! But schedule an appointment ASAP because he is a popular guy!

Thank you both for the replies. When ds was diagnosed 6 months ago, I didn't know Dr. Wood existed and his connection to research. So, I went to a ped. recommended allergist.
Is his Lutherville office now closed? Did you have trouble parking at Hopkins?

We see Dr. Wood. He and his nurse practitioner are great. Parking at the JHH Outpatient Center is very easy and safe. There is a very long wait for food challenges, though. We called in mid-April and the first available is at the end of August.

Thanks for the info! Could you tell me his protocol? Does he prefer RAST or spt? Do you get a RAST before your appt. or after and a call with results? How often do you go?
Thanks!

Yup we see him too and I ADORE him! We had our ped do a RAST before we saw him last summer. Before this year's appointment he said to simply call and he'd order the proper tests (so he coudl get results from his preferred lab). I did that and 2 days later, yes just 2 days, his nurse called me with the results. They really are on top of things, and follow through.
He's a fantastic base of knowledge, but on a personal level he was great with Matthew (4 the first time he met him), and answered all of my questions.
Here's the impressive part. I'm having trouble with my son's school (entering public kindergarten this fall) and before I met with the school the first time, I called Wood's office to ask what he'd back me up on (peanut free room, epi pen IN his classroom, etc...). The nurse gave me some preliminary info and off I went to my meeting.
As I was walking into the school building my cell phone rang. Dr. Wood had called my home, talked to my dh, gotten my cell phone number from my dh and THEN called me! He literally caught me moments before I met with them and he went to a lot of trouble to do so. Not many doctors of his caliber are that accessible and I couldn't be happier with him after that experience. Not only does he have the scientific knowledge, he's fantastic as a person!
ETA: We see him annually because at this point he feels Matthew has a great chance at being part of the 20% that outgrow PA.

Could you give me a run down on Matthew?

We go to see him too.. at Johns Hopkins. He is definitely worth the trip!
He has advised us and friends of ours that see him NOT to get bloodtests before visits. They like to do it there at the hospital. He takes time for the visit.. didn't rush us thru at all... he answered every single question I had and was very relaxed in the visit.
I've had to call there a few times with questions and either he's called me back or someone from his staff in a very timely manner.
I wouldn't go anywhere else. I even switched our insurance so we could see him.
