Dairy Queen Stars

Has this changed recently? Last year and earlier this spring, the boxes at our local DQ didn't have any warning that they were made in a shared facility. Do they have more than one plant? Do you know if they share lines or just the factory?

They've added the warning labels to the Star Kisses at our DQ now, too. The Dilly Bars from the factory still don't have a warning.

I don't know if this will help, but the red, white and blue star bars were profiled on Food Network's Unwrapped. They take you into the factories and show you how things are made. From the look of things (and I know how camera editing can skew things) I didn't see anything else being processed in that room, or how anything with nuts could come into contact with the star bars. So it might be worth a call, the room could be sealed off from the rest of the factory, if that's in your comfort zone.

I did call on these just the other week.........they do NOT have anything near them that has peanuts in the facility. DQ fought to keep that peanut part off the label because there is NO chance of any cross contamination. My son just LOVES the red ones, and with a child with a RAST level of 6 with peanuts.........belive me, I check EVERYTHING. The new packaging will reflect what the woman on the phone told me, no more peanut warning.......she said they have been swamped with calls from concerned parents.

The Dairy Queen in Delphi Indiana says right on the door and drive thru if you are allergic to peanuts it will not be safe to eat there. Needless to say we avoid DQ.

The last time I looked at DQ's website, they advised PA people not to eat any of their food EXCEPT the packaged treats that come from the factory, if they don't have a warning label. So that's what we do. I go in and buy a box after I've read the label.

I have exchanged e-mails with Dairy Queen now, and the Star Kisses have changed from being safe to not safe. The company that manufactures them for DQ now manufactures peanut products, too. That's why they added the warning to the label.

You're not far from me-I didn't think anyone in this area had PA by the way people look at me when I mention it. We are just north of Logansport.

This is the Dairy Queen we frequent when we go to our summer place. (past where 18 and another road converge. Across from the new CVS. (a few video games, and *I* get to shop at one of my favorite "Americanna" type stores. [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/tongue.gif[/img]
We stopped at a Dairy Queen in our area (south suburbs of Chicago). Will post about it in "Living with PA" later....

I heard back from International Dairy Queen that the Dilly Bars made in the factory really do not come into contact with peanuts, which is consistent with their labeling. Good news for our family - we love those things! Just make sure you don't get the ones they make at the restaurant, which are in paper wrappers. The ones from the factory are in plastic, sealed wrappers inside a sealed box. The nice woman I've been exchanging e-mails with seemed to understand that it was a good thing for them to have peanut-free choices for customers with a need.
