10 pounds is nothing...last July when I went back to MA to visit my mother, I picked and brought back to Tucson 20 pounds (yes, 20 pounds) of fresh-picked blueberries. Thinking ahead I brought an empty hard sided carryon suitcase that fit my little bushels of berries very nicely for the trip home. Not a one swished [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/smile.gif[/img]
I was using frozen fresh-picked blueberries til December [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/smile.gif[/img]

since you mentioned blueberries....
i have several freezer bags full of blueberries right now. how come they get all soft and yucky when i thaw them out to use them??? did i do something wrong???? will i just have to bake with them now? they don't taste the same to me. maybe it's a texture thing (i'm big on textures and i liked the blueberries before when they weren't mush).
they were so perfect the day someone brought them to me fresh-picked. now i'm so sad whenever i thaw out a bag......

yeah - after you freeze them they are only good for baking. But, should be completely splendid baked in muffins or a pie or scones or blueberry sauce for pancakes or homemade blueberry icecream or blueberry coffeecake, I digress.
You did nothing wrong, that's just what happens. Remember though when you get fresh-picked blueberries to NOT WASH them until you are ready to eat them. Makes 'em last longer...

thanks for the info! at least now i can stop feeling guilty that i ruined them in some way. [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/smile.gif[/img] guess i'll get busy baking. the trouble with that is that now i'll eat coffee cake, muffins, and pancakes with blueberries instead of just fresh blueberries alone. there goes the diet.....

Garlic bread (Milano 6 inch French Rolls, brushed with melted Jewel salted sweet butter, and sprinkled with McCormick "Garlic Sprinkle" and baked till toasty.) I use the garlic sprinkle [i]sparingly[/i]
[b]~Entree~[/b]
Cube steak (floured with flour, salt, pepper, rubbed oregano, then fried in a non stick skillet with a few tablespoons of cooking oil--I use wesson vegetable oil, and simmered with a touch of water after browning---makes an excellent gravy, keeping the flavor of the meat)
[b]~Sides~[/b]
Red potatoes boiled
Carrot shreds steamed. The cubs love this and the prep is a snap.
Cauliflower chunks steamed in microwave (drain very, very well).
Potatoes and cauliflower served with Ragu Cheesy Double Cheese sauce.
[b]~Dessert~[/b]
Fresh bosc pears peeled, cored, and wedged with fresh bluberries.

Possibly with disasterous consequences. I mean, I still hold my breath on quite a number of occasions. It's how, after some soul-searching, my family handles things. Individual Mileage May Vary. Just describing the highly individual, personal, and possibly unique circumstances in the constellation of *MY* family. Happenstance. Could be the *wrong* way, or just what works for *my* family. Might not "work" for other families. For all I know, other families might have *already* had a bad or even disaterous experience with items on this menu.
