Breastfeeding didn't work for us, either. Both children reacted to my breastmilk by the time they were a few weeks old. Both were exclusively breastfed until 5.5 mo (DD) and 6 mo. (DS) I was told by the allergist to continue breastfeeding while eliminating their allergens from my diet until they were 3 yrs. old. I did that, too. So I have racked up a total of 6 yrs. and 4 mos. of breastfeeding.

Well really now...they just don't understand any of this at all...they're just looking at statistics. I BF'd DS#1 wth HEAVY supplementation starting at 3 weeks old. He developed PA and asthma. I BF'd DS#2 exclusively for 6 months and weaned around 27 months, avoided all peanut and treenuts myself after he was 6 months and never exposed him to any directly and wouldn't you know, he's PA AND TNA (no asthma though =)
Besides, LLL's been preaching for years that exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months protects against allergies, so are the american docs just getting on the bandwagon now? Please.

You betcha. When it comes to ways that the average Schmoe can "blame" me for my daughter's allergies, I'll make an exception. Nobody "blames" people with other disabilities for their conditions or looks for ways that [i]they did it to themselves.[/i] Irks me when people do that.

I wish they'd stop touting that-- we were just about told that not BFing our daughter would be tantamount to [i]abuse[/i] based on our family's Hx of allergies. But we were never told to avoid certain foods while BFing by those same people... ironic, really.

LOL! I'm no big fan either. [i]Hate the attitude.[/i] Honestly? And no advice, absolutely not, but I'd probably be popping a bottle in my adorable girl's pie hole right now if she wasn't so.......[i]adorable[/i] when she nurses. Polite, coy, full of smiles. I'm not good at refusing my children. The boys? They were equally as content with the bottle. And I can't see that I went "wrong" there either. But maybe I just lucked out. Maybe it's just me. No advice. (don't want the LLL police to find me.....)
I mean, sure, it would be nice to have breastfed my boys longer than I did, but what "works" for some isn't necessarily what "works" for others. And there is no way __ ____ I'm going to point fingers at *anyone* who manages to raise their children with love and concern merely because they choose (for whatever reasons, any reasons) not to breastfeed. [i]No way[/i].

My PA DD absolutely refused to BF. She would fight me. I had to feed her something. So, she got the bottle, but I don't think that is why she is PA.
As far as solid food goes, she wasn't interested until around 71/2 months. So, I did wrong by giving her a bottle (according to the article) but did right by delaying solid foods. So, too much formula led to her allergy? Maybe.
