I know I shouldn't feel annoyed at Rosie...
But I do.
And my 2nd email to her explained that (in 200 characters or less...)
Sigh

Ditto... wrote to Rosie and ABC's "Viewmaster".
I'd love to send flowers to poor Elizabeth. I imagine she's miserable these days. I can't even watch the show anymore, O'Donnell bugs me to no end. Meredith Viera holds similar political views as Rosie O'Donnell and yet I find Viera warm and charming while O'Donnell just grates on me and seems like a know-it-all, disrespectful twit. If Rosie really wanted to not be a jerk, in her reply she would have been gracious and at least would have explained her comment, if not apologize.

I don't think it matters who we write to. I was listening to the radio the other day and they were talking about all the controversy Rosie is causing. Then the one guy says "Yes, but did you see ratings for The View are up 58%, so apparently it is working."
So I don't think ABC is going to care that we are upset if their ratings are going up. I think we are better off if we just stop giving her the attention, and stop watching.

If Elizabeth has food allergies, it makes what happened during that segment even more pathetic. The fact that an individual with FA's responded so meekly, when an opportunity presented itself for a quick, easy and pointed message about the seriousness of FA's, really makes me disgusted with the whole lot of them.
Maybe a boycott of ABC, their shows, their advertising accounts -- you know -- their money, would be more effective. Problem is, if the community of individuals that contacts them is a small percentage, or demographic, I doubt they will care.

I don't find it surprising in the least. I have never liked Rosie-I always thought she was sarcastic and self-serving. This certainly proves it. If she's the one who actually writes her blog, she is hideously unprofessional-the 'internet' abbreviations (which I believe are really meant for things like IM and text messaging when it's not as easy to type in quickly) and bad grammar should be embarrassing to someone who believes she's such a pillar of the community. Seriously-how much harder is it to type YOU instead of U and YOUR (or you're) instead of UR? And what does she have against capitals??
I really don't care what she says or thinks until it might affect my child. I know that a lot of people love her and may really believe in everything she says.

Okay. I almost posted this a few days ago but decided not to. But this thread is still going strong, and I simply can't contain myself anymore.
First--I admit--I've only seen The View a couple of times, and that was when I had maternity leave in 1998 and was stuck holding refluxy DS upright for 30 minutes between nursing. And I have seen parts of the Rosie O'Donnell show before (and while I'm at it, parts of Oprah). Never a whole one. Okay, and I'm kinda proud of that. I'm not sure what's valuable about TV talkshows.
Regardless, I don't understand why we're giving this such energy. Really.
Yes, with what she originally said she could have turned some people off to what we're trying to accomplish as a group of advocates for peanut allergic individuals. But goodness, she did not devote the air space to what we've given her credence for. And I've not gone to her blog, but from what I've read here, I'm assuming that she wouldn't have fed this issue if folks affected by pa hadn't challenged her.
Not that we shouldn't try to challenge our world. I'm not saying that.
But why would this be effective with her? The little I've seen of this person I can tell that she's sarcastic--a comedian. She's not going to do anything but make light of this plight if she wasn't sensitive in the first place.
Better at this point to leave well enough alone than to give her opportunities to dig deeper at us and pa.
This is a little beside the point, but I don't understand what all the big disappointment is about. This person is a celebrity plain and simple. It's her job to be a celebrity. While it might be nice if she were thoughtful, too, folks are apparently asking too much. I am in no way defending her so much as I am wanting to put all of the diappointment I'm reading in check. Her job is to be a TV celebrity--nothing more, nothing less.

McCobbre, I think part of the disappointment comes with the public personality she has. Her show was incredibly popular. She has a huge following, and I'm sure the View has enjoyed incredible increases in their numbers since she went on. On her show, as well as on the View, she puts herself out there as a compassionate person, a person whose first priority is her children, and just in general espousing an agenda based on liberal, humane, inclusive ideas. While her comments on the show about FA's was irresponsible, what is more offensive is that instead of reacting like one thinks she would, based on what she projects as her personality on the shows she had & is on now, she has been flippant and hasn't come out and corrected her view (or at least said one single thing about it). Additionally, that Elizabeth, whose personality is one of the conservative, nice, sweet, young, Mom -- didn't say something besides one meek little response, is also is annoying. Given that it has been asserted that she has Food Allergies, you would expect, given the image that she puts out there, that she, too, would say something -- should say something.
I will say, that I don't think you are missing anything by not adding The View or Oprah to your TV watching. From what I've seen, except for the random show here or there, neither is that great. I did like the Rosie O'Donnell show better -- used to watch that more often, but not consistently. There are however, millions of people in this country, that unlike you & I, tune into those shows each and every day. They love them, they love the personalities on them and they listen to what they say. For Food Allergies that is a bad thing when those people put out false information or react to the seriousness of FA's with eye rolling and sarcasm. It is especially bad, when we here all know how hard we work just to get people to even believe our children can die from their child's peanut butter and jelly sandwich, and with one eyeroll from Rosie, all that work can be washed down the drain. Yes, it is a sad commentary on people, but people can be that way.

She has said publicly that she is severly dyxlexic and that she can't spell and has never been able to. (In fact, she said that she can't even get the spelling of words close enough for Spell-Check to identify what she's trying to say.)
I think she writes her blog that way because she's going for a poetic style -- even if she COULD spell and edit, she probably wouldn't.
