In a NUT shell, (pun intended) --
No fellow human being chooses to be peanut allergic any more than Rosie chose to be gay. [/i]
Too pi$$ed to write to the show just yet.

well yes....elizabeth....you do have a point. completely. as much as i like rosie, her level of understanding about the difficulties many people deal with day to day should be deeper. that is true.

...and now that i've heard the exact quote and the manner in which it was used, i do have to agree that it wasn't said in the spirit of humor. hopefully, one (or all) of us can get through to her somehow by email or whatever and educate her a bit.

I just watched the show, and was on my way to write to all of you, when I saw that it was already written about. As soon as I finish this, I am going to write to The View. I would beg all of you to write too. Maybe we can get someone to start to talk about this. Wouldn't that be nice.
I do have to say that whether you like Rosie or not, it is obvious that she represents all of those people who 1. just don't get it, and 2. who have never seen there child stop breathing after an exposure to Peanut or any Lifethreatning Allergy.
People really do need to start to get it. Hopefuly the more we talk about it the more they will get it.
Please, Please, Please write to The View!!!

she also has a blog and I submitted my question to her there, don't all children deserve to be safe at school?

Still steaming & thinking about what I want to say in my letter . . . perhaps equating her "one peanut" to "one gun" since both can be lethal to a child.
One does NOT have to be educated about PA (or any other condition, or color, or sexual orientation, or religion, & so on) to simply NOT be snide in one's PUBLIC, ON AIR comments about accomodations and safety of others. I expect -- and work very hard to instill in my children -- tolerance and understanding and acceptance of ALL people and ALL differences.
FWIW, my original comment above was not intended to be snarky, but was intended to drive the point home in one simple, direct statement of analogy.
Suppose a clip of her on air comment will make it to You Tube??
Open mouth, insert large ped.
