Barb,
Good morning! Yes, there are privacy laws where ever you might go including the internet. I did not at any time give anyone, especially not "BriandBrinasmom"
permission to take what I wrote on my son's and my Blog, and make fun of my son! If you want to take cheap shots at me, okay... However, don't take shots at my child! That is low!

HUH? NO one here is taking shots at you! BriaBrinasmom posted what someone else posted, and that included quotes from your blog. She posted because she was upset at what others were saying about you and all the other posters here. I guess 'all that time she has on her hands' was wasted being upset for you!
I think your attitude was uncalled for here. I'm sure you are upset, but make sure you know who you are upset with before you go off.

I think there is a misunderstanding here. BriaandBrinasmom was pasting from a website she found. Not your website but if you click on the link in her original post you will see where she got it from.

Yes, Barb there was a misunderstanding on my part, because the way it appeared to me was that BriandBrinasmom was saying all of that.
Momma2boys there was not any attitude, I was just stating that if anyone would like to take shots at me... okay, that is fine, but please leave my child alone.
Thank you,
Laura Duke

im glad that you relized that this post isnt to poke fun at you or the difficult position your family is in. i would be shocked if anyone here (especally here!!!!) would be anything but understanding. your situation is way diffrent than mine, and i just want you to know i think about you and your family often. (dare i say pray for you guys.) and how i hope you can keep up the "fight" to keep him safe.
i took this topic as a rally against the iddotic people out there with no real education on how hard it is to live daily life with a very severe peanut allergy.

Laura, no problem. I understand it was a confusing initial post.
Regarding the over the top thing... I agree that people should be able to post whatever they want on this board, but that includes posting about when we think precautions are perhaps too extreme for our own child. Ideas shouldn't be threatening, and if the only voices we hear on this board are from those parents who take extreme precautions, the danger is that every newcomer is going to think those precautions are the norm and that they're a bad parent if they don't follow suit.
This board can help newcomers, but it can also provoke a huge amount of anxiety if there is not a balanced perspective. I know. I used to be a regular here but had to leave for several years because I found this place increased my anxiety to levels I couldn't tolerate and for no good reason - in my estimation my son wasn't any safer and I was not as effective a parent.
My son eats at a regular table that's not wiped in the cafeteria. He doesn't have a 504 plan. He touches the wrappers of peanut candy. His medications are in the nurse's office, not on his person at all times. My daughter eats peanut butter in the house. These are all things for which I'm sure someone on this board would call me "lax" but I think it's important that I can talk about them so the new moms out there know there's a wide continuum of ways to deal with peanut allergy.

I for one appreciate the entire range of feelings and concerns expressed on this website. Others may find some of the posts extreme but you know what? Many positive changes we have seen in society have occurred because people started jumping up and down about what was wrong with the status quo. Reading all your posts over the past few months has made me realize how negatively I was affected as a child by judgemental adults who didn't understand that I had a serious allergy. They thought I was a "picky eater" or was "trying to get attention". So all my life I have been very low key and apologetic about having this peanut allergy. As a school girl, I would walk home for lunch (this made four trips a day of more than a mile each in all types of weather) rather than eat in the cafeteria because of the peanut butter in other kids' lunch bags and that being served in the lunch line. When I would get a reaction I would feel embarrassed and would often suffer in silence. I still feel uncomfortable at age 66 when I bring up my allergy. Would a child of today be better off emotionally if his or her mother and father didn't speak up at schools, in stores, on the playing fields or in restaurants? I don't think so. There should be more safeguards in place for peanut allergic kids. There should be more awareness and proactivity in the medical profession about peanut allergy. Every restaurant that uses peanut oil in cooking should say so in its menus. So nuts to the naysayers!

Good point! I'm still trying to figure out my comfort zone when it comes to controlling contact and school precautions...I guess what we all have to keep in mind is that we know our child best, and to use the knowledge we've gained and follow our instincts right? Meg
