Ok. I don't know if this is old news or not. I've never read it here.

My mom was really missing her pecan pies since the nut allergies emerged. So, she subbed the same amount of chopped pretzels and came up with an awesome pie. Tastes and feels just like pecan.

So, if it can change the pie, how about all of our recipies? Candies, cookies, pies, cakes, bars, you name it, we've changed it. It's usually an equal sub for a fantastic treat.

My dds are in heaven.

Thought I'd share just in case it's new news.

Patty, Thanks for the tip. Do the pretzels stay crunchy or did they get soft? And were they chopped pretzels stick or chunkier ones? Did she just mix them directly into the syrup, put the mix in the pie crust, and bake as usual?
Sorry for all the questions, but I'd love to be able to revive old recipes like pecan pie with a safe alternative.
Thanks, Janet

The pretzels do stay crunchy. I was skeptical at first, too, but surprisingly, days later the pie was just as good.
Yes, she just crunched up regular pretzels and used them exactly as the nuts.
Enjoy!
