We utilize a mail order pharmacy for a number of our maintenance prescriptions.

We ordered some refills for my PA son and the mail order pharmacy shipped the prescriptions in a recycled PLANTERS PEANUT BOX!

Talk about cross contamination issue!

I appreciate them trying to save a few cents by recycling boxes, but this is one of the most insensitive, moronic (is that a word?), braindead things I've had to whine about.

You would think that a pharmacy would be smarter.

Before anyone asks, no the pharmacy was not Canadian.

Awful! I assume that you sent it back. How did they respond? Pharmacists need to be educated. A friend of mine is a pharmacist and they often have little or no lunch time. They often eat while they are working. She had never considered the implications of eating nut products while filling prescriptions. She does now.

No, I did not send it back.
It was probably over $1000 worth of prescriptions.
I took the box outside, opened the box, washed all the sealed bags with water. Next I opened the bags and washed all the sealed containers.
They didn't know. They do know now! After washing, I/we feel the risk is minimal. Everything is still in their manufactured in sealed containers. I burned the box.

That is probably the most unusual and ridiculous potential peanut exposure I've ever heard! You just never know where it's going to come from, do you?! Sheesh.

I know you probably get good prescriptions from them but the mailing boxes at the post office are free! It looks so bad when someone uses another box to mail things.
This is why I would at least inform them of their poor choice of packing containers. And then you can throw in PA to boot because they should know.
ps. Pete, I really love your family site. My PA son is 19 and for YEARS he slept with my vacuum cleaner until we got him one of his own. If he was in a bad mood or sick the vacuum cleaner was what soothed him. I thought we were the only ones!
