Have you noticed that it causes your kids to be extra nervous or hyperactive?
DS was diagnosed with asthma yesterday, and his doctor told us to start him on Singulair (once daily in the evenings). We gave it to him last night, and also did a nebulizer treatment with albuterol (which normally doesn't make him act any differently). Within the hour, he was VERY active and hyper. I tried holding him to read him a story, and it was like he couldn't stop moving and wiggling. (He normally sits very still and listens quietly when I read to him.) DH agreed that he was acting strange. It was also a huge contrast because he'd been very sleepy most of yesterday, probably because he hasn't been sleeping well due to his cough.
He seems fine this morning, though.
So ... did/do any of your kids have this side effect from Singulair? If so, did it go away after they'd been on it for a few days?
Little V was put on singulair about 1 month ago.She has had no problems with it,only when she is not on it.

My dd has been on Singulair for a year and never a hint of a problem- I would bet it was the Albuterol- that makes her shaky and hyper!
DS has been on Singulair for about 6 months and no problems. But the Albuterol makes him hyper.

Ask your pediatrician about Xopenex - similar to Albueterol but without the hyperactive side effects. Maybe the combination of the two did something.
Does the xopenex work as well as albuterol?
I'm waiting for our ped's nurse to call me back. I'll ask about trying xopenex ...

I think that Xopenex works as good or better than Albuterol especially since it doesn't cause the "jitters".
My ds is on singulair and albuterol and we TOTALLY saw a difference in his activity level. We started giving it to him in the morning for that exact reason.
He is also on Xopenex (along with the albuterol, singulair and pulmicort).
Darn. Just got a call back from the nurse, who said that the doctor on duty (not our regular ped) wants us to continue the meds and call in a couple of days (when our regular ped is back in the office).
We're supposed to go out of town this weekend ...
The Xopenex works much better than albuterol. According to my allergist it is a more refined form of albuterol. It works better and lasts longer.
Mistey, Xopenex is supposed to be used instead of albuterol. Why is your child on both? That kind of worries me.
We never had any problems with the Singulair. Our main problem is with prednisone.
