We use Breyer's ice cream: vanilla, coffee, chocolate, mint chip, and Take Two (vanilla and chocolate).
We are avoiding peanuts and watermelon.

We are avoiding peanut and tree nut. The only thing we use so far is Breyer's vanilla (the 98% fat free). I might branch out to other flavors someday but we're happy with plain vanilla for now. We use philly swirl when I can find it.

I have a few ice cream makers, but I currently have a table top ice cream maker I can use and have 100% safe, fresh, fairly healthy ice cream in 20 minutes. We have a very tight comfort zone with ice cream and dd loves it, so that is our solution. Chocolate silk "ice cream" is good in it, too!

Thanks Gale. I have noticed recently that they are also morphing alot of flavors into "creamy" and "smooth" or such varieties, adding eggs to them. It is getting harder to find a simple flavor that is still unadulterated. I would think they have to put peanut oil on the label regardless, right? But I am alread trusting something that is likely shared equipment, albeit washed. I have never seen peanut oil listed on any of their flavors. Huh. I will look now and rethink my choice. becca

I'm not sure if you'll check back to this thread, but if so, are you comfortable with those flavors becasue you know that they aren't run after the peanut/nut ice creams, or is it just a comfort zone issue? I'd love to expand beyond Breyers Vanilla!
ALso, I know it's been mentioned in other threads, but it seems relevant here. I have a Cuisenart ice cream maker, and I love it. It's easy to use, and I love the home made ice cream taste. The ingredients that need to be purchased, though, can make it a fairly pricey quart of ice cream!

A recent FDA study indicated that one out of every four packaged ice cream products is contaminated with nuts or peanuts. These odds are too high for my family. I hope the passage of FALCPA will result in some changes in the way ice cream is manufactured and labeled. In the meantime, we only eat soft ice cream, Philly Swirl, Hoodsie Cups (currently made on a dedicated line) or homemade.
