I am in need of a sample 504 that is actually form a California school preferably Kindergarten or early elementry. I have a Meeting with the school principal on Monday morning an I really want to have all of my ducks in a row. So far I have been told that the school district does not write 504's for an allergy (I just found Rhonda's primer and will be taking that with me). I was also told that it is aginst the law in the state of California for any medication "drug" to be kept or adminestered anywhere but in the office. I am getting the feeling that I better go in there with all of my guns drawn or my son will not get the protection that he needs.

Anyone who could email me a 504, it would be greatly appreciated.

HI Shannon,
I'll contact you off-board re:the 504 we used in California for K last year.
Also, I gave some info to you in this thread
that may be helpful.
Finally, do a search under my Username Nutternomore in the Schools thread and you can review all my posts from last spring through fall. You'll see I asked for help in getting examples of what other schools were doing in California re:504 accommodations, and I documented in detail our submissions to the school and school district as we went through the process from start to finish. I think you'll find some really helpful stuff there (so I've been told by others) [img][/img]

Thank you very much for your help. With school starting so soon, I am getting very anxious. I live in a very small town and mistakenly assumed it was going to be very easy for me to deal with the school on this issue. My first clue that I was wrong was when I turned in all of his registration forms and wanted to speak to the nurse about his allergy and give them the letter from his Doctor for meds in school. This was late last year and they really did not want to discuss it with me and told me not to bring the doctor note until school starts. I offered the use of my trainer but the nurse told me there was no need since the staff was already trained. I want to see proof of that since I have relatives who teach in the same district and they were given the option of being trained or not.
I am sorry to ramble, the anxiety is getting the better of me.

One other thing to consider as your work through the issues.
You should be aware that Senator Ashburn (from your area) is sponsoring a new state bill S. 1912, important legislation concerning kids.
Existing law provides that each pupil who is required to take, during the regular schoolday, medication prescribed for him or her by a physician, may be assisted by the school nurse or other designated school personnel if the school district receives a written statement from the physician detailing the method, amount, and time schedules by which the medication is to be taken and a written statement from
the parent, foster parent, or guardian of the pupil indicating the desire that the school district assist the pupil in the matters set forth in the physician's statement.
This bill would authorize a pupil to carry and self-administer inhaled asthma or auto-injectable epinephrine medication if the
school district receives the statements described above.
I mention this because over time, you may want to get acquainted with Sen. Ashburn's staff. They seem to understand food allergies, perhaps they could be of assistance (as a last resort).
It's difficult work to be a trailblazer, but you can be successful with perseverence.
Please let us know how it's going....and hang in there!

Shannon, I am away on vacation and am only checking the boards sporadically when I make it to the library. We have had a 504 in two different California school districts. I will be happy to email it to you when I get home next week. Please send me an email if you would like that. My email is in my profile.
Good luck!
