Oh MommaBear, you do give me a headache lol.
*you* as a mother of a child with PA would have your IEP/OHI or 504 plan at the school, that would remain there and uneffected by this plan.
this plan is for the parents of nonPA etc children, so they can understand that these are some of the steps that will be taken to protect children with life-threatening allergies, this is the part of the plan that *WE* (the nonFA parents)can help with so that *they* (the school) can accommodate *our* (the nonFA parents) needs as well. HOWEVER!!! if *WE* (the nonFA parents) cant appreciate that, and abuse *Their* (the schools)compromise, *they* (the school) will take the steps necessary to insure the safety of this child!!! and that will mean keeping PB out of the school completely!
(now mind you... the other stuff ie, items containing nuts etc, is already accounted for)
Gosh that was hard with all the *'s and stuff lol.
for lack of a better expression, could you "dumb yourself down a little" to try to see where I am coming from?
and why do I get the feeling they the more frustrated I get in trying to explain, the more fun you are having? lol (I think I am going to go soak my brain for a while)

this is it, pure and simple...
the school is allowing peanut butter, but only if we (the parents of non pa kids) can act responsibly, and have our children act responsibly. so we still have that as an option and nothing has been taken away from us. now if it istaken away later, we will have nobody to blame but ourselves.

Yes, pure and simple, this is back to PB as a "right" thing, huh? Still wondering why, in the context of education (many times, in many situations, environments, *rights* can vary), people feel that way. Hypothetically, could someone have the *need* for such, in order to access a "free and appropriate education" in a "least restrictive environment", written into *their* IEP and accommodations made in order to consume it?
I mean, I did *my* homework in order that *my* cubs be able to attend school.
*Personally* sending my cubs to a school where PB is present is a risk/benefit decision. It's a calculated risk for *him* to be present where it is regularly consumed or interact with those around those who regularly consume it. I mean, *proper* handwashing is only a part of it. I guess it's a calculated risk for the school allow it to be present.
Wondering if folk need to add the numbers up again.

couldn't resist, had to run with it.

In a way yes. Brass tacks here...
the majority of the community is P*$$ED, (how do I know, I was the first to speak out before I educated myself, therefore I am still getting calls)
The majority say "nobody's gonna tell me I cant send my kid to school with something that is healthy for them" and they still are sending it to school.
So what do we do? force the issue and p*$$ them off more so they send it more often?
and with it being sent more often, without this plan, its not in a restricted area therefore putting this child in more danger. Are parents doing it maliciously? well sure they are, but they will argue that they just wanted their childs lunch to be one they liked.
I even heard somebody suggest that all the parents get together and on a certain day send all their kids to school with PB sandwiches, PB & Crackers, reeses PB cups and any other thing that contains pb. I WAS HORRIFIED! I mean, I knew that in the beginning I was furious, but I never thought that! I walked up to them and introduced myself, they knew me from my initial article and figured I would be cheering them on! I told them different, and I told them about the plan I had been working on, and all they said was "so my kid can take peanut butter if I want them to? I could live with that."
I want to difuse situations like that, and if the people here get their precious pb back as an option, it will calm things down considerably. People see things here as "personal responsibility" so if they get their pb back, but then end up losing it because they were @$$holes, THAT they will understand.

Something to think on while soaking:
Would the *system* benefit from educating folk on what rights people DO have in the context of a public education and what rights THEY DO NOT?

OF COURSE the parents plan would supercede all others, I am not trying to change that!

No, just the opposite, not a right but a priviledge, and one that will be taken away if it cant be handled responsibly.

accommodate yes, but not the S.D.P as you put it, but in opening your mind to see things in a different way than just your point of view.
