Mmmm....peanut butter hot a hot toasted bagel....I'm with Sandra. I used to eat it every morning, and even CRAVE pb until I began to get these bizarre reactions to it. Hey I've heard somewhere that you often crave what you are allergic to. Strange.
Anyhow we still have pb in the house. I don't buy nuts for baking though, or any obvious nut products. Even when you're the adult, you can make a mistake for yourself if you're in a hurry or don't read the labels properly.

Most of the time it's just so routine not to eat anything with nuts, but occasionally I also have terrible nut cravings. (The above post mentioning peanut butter on toast had me salivating-- I loved mine with melted butter dripping off the sides! Yummmmm) Then other times I'm absolutely repulsed and it feels twisted and perverted to even think about eating something so deadly to my beloved. Usually by the time I can arrange a "nut outing", I've swung back the opposite way and can't do it. I've been known to scarf down a reeses at the grocery store tho!

Okay, You guys may think I'm "weird" for posting this but it's something that for some odd reason made me compare this question with something else....
As I posted before, I love PB and still eat it although Cam's allergic to it. I have been keeping up w/this thread just to see if I'm more (or less) of a minority in that aspect. Reading other peoples post in re: to the thought of it repulses them, etc. made me compare this to the way I feel about alcohol. DH is an alcoholic (doesn't drink anymore, though) we've been married 12 yrs and the first 4 were awful. And I don't drink around him (or at all really) out of respect for him...in fact the last time I had any alcohol was 5 yrs ago. I detest alcohol, although I respect other peoples choice to drink if they are "able" to drink. I don't won't nor allow drinking around my kids, my oldest (18) has seen me drink a beer once on my 21st b-day (he's my step son), and a wine cooler on vacation 5yrs ago, my 16 yr old s-daughter and 10 yr old son was there also, and this is the only time the 2 of them seen me drink (Cam was only a baby).
Now, to my question, why is it that I detest alcohol but can still eat PB?? I've had awful experiences w/both of them...(My step daughter is also an alcoholic, she almost died due to alcohol poisoning 2 wks before Christmas, in fact she quit breathing) So why is it that I can still eat PB and not detest it, but have the same hate for alcohol as alot of u do here for PB?
I know this is off the topic and forgive me MommaBear and tell me to delete or post elsewhere or just tell me to stop asking such ridiculous questions..

We don't have ANY pb, peanuts, peanut products, "may contain" products, Etc. is the house at all. I want our house to be a "safe zone". I feel it's scary enough to take my son anywhere because of all the risks of coming in contact, cross contamination, mistakes, etc. so I don't want to have to worry about it at home. He knows he can eat anything and everything at home. I have eaten pb product away from home when I wasn't with my PA son but then was sooo nervous that I didn't wash it all off my hands or whatever, I don't eat it at all anymore. I hear more on air and touch allergies to peanut that I don't want to take that chance. Does anyone know how to find out if my son is air/touch? Glad I get to share my opinion with you guys, thanks!- Jodi

Discussion is just that. Things come up. New ideas pop into our heads. I even appreciate a good debate. I'm happy people even reply. (Don't ya just love to see a thread you started at the top of the board?????) Maybe it is just me. I love the input of others into questions that plague me enough to post them. LOL.
Part of my posting the "Smoking Survey" was to see how many persons could visualize treating similar societal concerns in the same manner and degree we (as voiced on this board) like to see PA treated. I wonder if we give as good as we like to get? Any opinions? (Not only have I gotten off track, but I've posted about another post in a different post)

We have eliminated peanut products from our home. I want my PA daughter to have a safe zone as many of you have said. But, at 19 months, she doesn't yet know that other places are not safe. So, to be honest, it is more for my emotional state than hers. I need there to be a safe zone for her where I can almost relax (except for those darn non-reliable labels that you guys have educated me on).

Nicole,
I don't know how to do the bold thing exactly, but to edit it, look at the top of your post and there a several things on the right there's a paper w/pencil click there and you can edit away!!
MommaBear,
Thanks for letting me go off topic on your thread, I know it confuses people, it was just something that your topic made me think about, but I reckon that's what its about!

I'm very cautious in what I eat. I will occasionally have a chocolate bar that has almonds in it. Or a "may contain" though I try not to eat these around her and wait till she is in bed.
I don't eat peanuts of PB at all, don't care for them. DH will not eat PB, not even in his lunch at work. If he does, he just leaves the jar in his locker, he doesn't want it in the house. It does repulse and scare him enough to do this. It scares me, I just have terrible will power. I don't have many nut items around here. And DHs snacks for work are all *may contains* little debbies, so I'm extra careful with those. She knows they are all unsafe.
I feel so much guilt I have given alot of thought to going strictly to her safe diet, just because it's just food and I shouldn't be so reluctant to live the way she will have to forever.

We're a nut free house (except for me), since DW is anaph. to peanuts, DD#1 for the first time, had a PB cookie (outside the house) with no reaction. DD#2 is allergic (though no ingestion EVER, including in utero), DD#3 has no teeth (which wouldnt stop her from trying it)
Me, on the other hand, eat PB outside the house whenever I have it at work, when someone brings in PB cups, snickers, etc...
I have no problem eating it at work, though I make sure to wash up a BIT, before coming home. All that means is make sure I eat something else before I leave, wash out mouth with some water, etc... I could never brush my teeth at work... I can only brush my teeth at home. It wouldnt be the same, not being interupted with toothpaste in my mouth (Daddy, I have to peeeeeeeeeeeeeee)
