Letter sounds great! I like Gail's suggestion of documenting the OCR doc.
Good luck and get some rest girl!

Hi guys, I talked to the principal this am and she said she would be glad to take the letter with her. Then she called said meeting was cancelled but she would send it over and attach a note from herself asking her to get started on it.
So, we'll see what happens. What is usually the next step? Will they send me a letter, call me?

I'd say that the usual next step is to give yourself a pat on the back.
Nice work.

Okay, seriously. If the patting is complete , the next step is to line up your medical documentation.
Check out Rhonda's site www.allergysupport.org and get to the letter from doctor. I'll bump it up if I can find it here on pa.com.
Gail
P.S. Bumped up 2 threads for you~ one by Rhonda RS and the other by AmyS re "letter from doctor to school".

Great Momma2boys!
After the patting on the back that is much deserved as Gail suggested I can't stress enough to read read read the law and know it. It is lengthy and time consuming but its your best armor, if needed. I did not think I'd need it, surely the school knows the law and wouldn't chance doing something illegal...WRONG!!!
Sorry to harp on that, but it truly has been something that I couldn't have been without, and only in the 1st few conversations, I imagine knowing the law is going to be to my advantage even more when the real process begins!
OH, and make sure you to a break when you need it, it will definately refresh your brain!
Please keep us posted as things go along, m2boys!

OK Guys! The director of special ed. just called me and said that she got my letter, talked to the principal. She said they recognize peanut allergy as very significant and there will be ABSOLUTELY NO problem getting him a 504.
She told me my letter will be used as the official 504 referral and they will open his case today. They will send out forms for me to sign and the sooner I can get them a copy of his physical the sooner they will get started.
She said they would like to get it done right away and will be done way before school even starts.
She was very nice and told me repeatedly how seriously they take this. I am SO relieved and excited!! Thank you so much for all your help.

wow you guys are quick!! Ive also noticed you both post almost at the same time alot! Great minds think alike.
Lana I will definitely read up on 504 law since I still havent figured out the answer to my question about if the 504 can "force" training?
So to my next question. Should I ask the special ed director that question or does that make me sound like a troublemaker right off the bat? Or should I just ask the principal what she thinks about who will be trained and maybe doing an inservice or something?
