I posted this on the Main message board, but it was suggested that I also post it here, so more people can "Take Action". The magazine, Taste of Home, has a monthly column called "What I Add to Make _____ Special". Readers send in their secret ingredient ideas that spice up regular recipes. A couple of months ago, I emailed the magazine, asking them to let the readers know that if peanut products are a "secret" ingredient, to please let their guests know, since someone could be deathly allergic. I just received the June/July issue and guess what? One of the "secret" ingredients in a BLT is PEANUT BUTTER. A BLT should be just that - bacon, lettuce and tomato - but no, some genius has decided that peanut butter would make it really special!?! I believe that we should email this magazine and emphasize the dangers of peanut butter for an increasing number of people. It's not like were asking them to ban peanut butter recipes but to put people at risk by promoting peanut butter as a "secret" ingredient could have tragic consequences. To contact these clowns at Taste of Home, email them at editors@tasteofhome.com and refer to their "Special Ingredient" column.

Subject: Peanut Butter a special ingredient?
RE: Special Ingredient Column.
You must be out of your mind!
A BLT (or anything else, for that matter) that had peanut butter in it as a secret / special ingredient would kill my wife within minutes.
Please publish something to let your readership know of the danger of peanut allergy - fun article or not this is deadly serious.

Peanut butter on a BLT? I never considered that. . . It's brilliant. I'm going to try it tonight.
The following is what I e-mailed to them just a few minutes ago.
Dear Sir and/or Madam:
I'm completely shock that you all wouldn't take more care and concern with allergies. Many, many people have life threatening allergies and could die from eating someone's food "creation" that contains a common allergen.
Please reconsider encouraging people to have "secret" ingredients as it could cost someone their life. There are many dishes, such as a BLT, that someone wouldn't think would have peanut butter on it or even think to ask if it did. One bite could kill them.
People should always disclose their ingredients for this reason. Help us, who have mild to severe food allergies, by educating people of the seriousness of food allergies. Stop making our job more difficult!
Thank You,
I'll let you all know if I get a response.
