pJust a heads up for anyone out there who is expecting./p
pMy OB's office gave me samples of a bunch of different prenatal vitamins to help me choose which one I wanted to use, and so of course the first thing I did was start calling the manufacturers to make sure they didn't contain peanut oil./p
pWhen I called the manufacturer, I was told assuredly, "Oh, there's no peanut oil in that product."/p
p"Great!" I replied, "Because I have a child who's allergic to peanuts and I want to do everything I can to make sure my next one isn't. And there are no other types of nut products in there, are there? Oils, flours, derivatives of any type of nut, even in trace amounts?"/p
pAnd the customer service agent replied, "Well, there is tree nut oil in there."/p
pHello? Hello? Don't they get it yet? Their new and improved prenatal vitamin is reformulated to not contain peanut oil (which some of their older prenatal vitamins apparently contained), but all they did was switch to a different common allergen! Yikes!/p
pI hope this is useful for someone. (And I wonder if any prenatal vitamin out there is definitely safe. I haven't been able to get 100% certain answers from any manufacturer yet [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/frown.gif[/img] )/p

Just to follow up to my own message, I forgot to tell the most annoying part of the story:
Before I called the manufacturer, I thoroughly read the label (which included inactive ingredients in addition to the actual vitamins and minerals in the product).
After the customer service representative told me about the tree nut oil in the vitamin, I said to her, "Was there any way for me to have known that tree nut oil was in this vitamin from simply reading the ingredient list?" and she told me, "No, there wasn't".
Well, what in the world is the point of an ingredient list if you're not going to list the ingredient that is most likely to cause a consumer harm?!? [img]http://uumor.pair.com/nutalle2/peanutallergy/eek.gif[/img]

I took Prenate Ultra when I was pregnant with my daughter....
of course, she no doubt got a TON of other pn exposures at that point, but sheesh.

<p>I took Prenate Ultra when I was pregnant with my first. I have since called the company and they assured me there was not peanut oil in those vitamins. Prenate Ultra has since been discontinued, though. I am taking Stuart Natal vitamins at the reccomendation of someone else on this site. I called them and they told me no peanut and/or tree nut products.</p>
<p>where do you get Stuart Natal?</p>
<p>It's only available by prescription and then I get it through a "pharmacy by mail" program that my health insurance participates in.</p>
