Does anybody know what is used in those smoke machines? We were going to a Haunted House tonight, and I saw a lot of this smoke. The people working there were really nice, and brought a bottle of the liquid out for me to check. No ingredients. I was deciding whether we would try is when 5 1/2 y/o ds said, "No ingredients, No thank you!" I was sooo proud of him! Both of my kids decided to leave, but if I can find out if it is safe, we can go next weekend. They really wanted to go!(their choice, not mine--screams, bloody, scary characters, horns, even a chain saw--too scary for me!)
Thanks,
Andrea

I have no idea what is in it from the peanut/nut perspective, my DS's best friend (no is not PA/TNA/asthmatic) gets WICKED allergies (sneezing, runny nose, coughing, etc.) whenever he is "in the fog".

Now please understand this is not fact but, I do remember reading somewhere that the smoke they use in the portable fire-pervention trail should be avoided. I can't remember if it said "peanut oil was used" or not. This is the trailer that fills with smoke and the children try to find there way out of course the instructors are inside too... Let's us know what you find out. Good-luck be safe

Yes, they can use peanut oil in those smoking trailers that the fire departments bring around to the schools and other locations. Our school doesn't start letting kids in until 3rd grade. I had heard they use peanut oil to create the smoke, and I asked the fireman (whose son is in my daughter's class) and he confirmed it. They do check beforehand if anyone has pa. He did tell me, however, that it depends on what oil the person in charge orders. There are many choices, but peanut oil seems to be the best (don't know why). As an aside, my older (non-pa) daughter has been in it a few times, but doesn't want to go in again because her glasses fog up too much!

MY older non-Pa son went in a smoke trailer and nothing was ever said about peanut oil being used, maybe that time it was not. I have notified my school on the issue now that my 5yr old PA son could be involved. They were very suprised to hear this and will be checking it out. This trailer comes to the school every year and they had never heard of it. Now I'm sure there are other things they can use and maybe this is why it has never been brought up, but just in case please check it out. People just don't think about it like we do so let's help them out. Take Care. Kim

Hi All,
Thank you for your replies. I called the manufacturer, Multi-Media Electronics @ 1-800-592-4026, and here are the ingredients for Fog Juice: water, glycerin, and glycols (no pn or tn).
Now, I think that there are two different machines that we are talking about. This one seems to use some sort of air process to create fog. Does the machine that the fire dept. has use a burning process, needing an oil like pn(burning temp)?
Thanks again,
Andrea
PS - we will be trying the very scary haunted house.

I'm going to a home interiors party Friday night. The host's husband is a fireman who brings the smoke house to the school. If he is there (sometimes the husbands flee screaming rather then stay, unless there's a lot of food) I'll ask him again about the type of product used to create the smoke. Letcha know.
