Hi everyone, I have a couple of recipes this year for Thanksgiving that require unsalted butter. I use Cabot butter but all the stores where I live in Florida only carry the regular not unsalted .I tried to special order it but nothing yet. Does anyone have any info . on any other brand that is safe. thanks for all the help. Kathy Ann

I use Land o Lakes - never had any problems. I called the company and they said there wasn't a chance of cross contamination...though that was a couple of years ago.

We have always used Land O Lakes, but never called, I admit. I have always used this butter and we have not had any problems. I sue it alot for frosting and cookies and brownies and in scone recipies, but my dd does not use butter on toast and such, so it is still somewhat infrequently that she eats it. becca

I called LOL this year and they said there's no chance of cross contamination with the real butter. She wasn't sure about the margarine but we don't use it so I didn't pursue it.

I also use Land o Lakes and sometimes Kroger brand stick butter and have not had any problems either.

A few months ago I was assured by Organic Valley that all of their dairy products were safe, with the exception of (I think) their cream cheese. Since my memory of the one exception is a little sketchy, I would double check with them. I know that their milk and butter were said to be safe because I started buying them right after I spoke with them.

Every single time I've called about the "natural flavor" on unsalted butter, it's been derived from dairy (generally whey). It's to make it taste more "buttery", since the salt in salted butter enhances the taste of the butterfat.
I've stopped calling. LoL verified this years ago, though, and if I'm stuck someplace where I can't buy local organic butter, I settle for LoL.
