Nutmeg?

pI think Nutmeg is a grated seed of a tree. But I don't think it's like other nuts. I have nutmeg in eggnog every Christmas and have never had a reaction. (I am allergic to peanuts and all tree nuts.)/p

pHi, my allergist explained that nutmeg was a seed, not a nut, and therefore, we do not need to avoid it./p

pMy daughter is allergic to peanuts even the smell of them makes her react, she has had nutmeg before everytime with hives, so we have stopped giving her some she sometimes also reacts to cinnamon./p

Nutmeg is safe. It comes from the seeds of a tropical tree. Coconut is also usually safe to eat. A coconut is actually the seed of a fruit, though some have reacted to coconut you should discuss eating coconut with your health care provider before introducing coconut to your child's diet.

I know there are some children on this site who can eat Nutmeg. My one child is actually allergic to it and PA/TNA.

I never knew that about nutmeg. The toxicity and risk section was the most surprising. Despite the word nut in the name it never crossed my mind to check it out. My PA son had some egg nog (silk version - he is dairy and egg allergic also) and loved his "Christmas Milk". I think it has nutmeg in it but it is not listed on the label. I guess that could fall under the "natural flavors" listing on the label.
