I've been emailing Krispy Kreme back and forth, and I finally got their answer. I did go to one of their stores this weekend and was presented a laminated card that listed all the ingredients for the almond amaretto donuts. I thought that was a fantastic idea. Yes, it is artificial flavoring. Again, I found them very allergy aware but I still wanted to make sure of all the franchises were the same. They do make the most wonderful donuts. Here is the response:

Thank you for contacting us again. I must first apologize for the delay in
my response. I had to do some research on this issue to insure that I
answered all your questions correctly.
Your first question was, "Do you ever use peanut/treenut products in the
featured doughnuts?" We do not use nut products in any of our featured
doughnuts because we understand the risks involved for those with nut
allergies.
To answer your second question, you can email customer service if you are
ever concerned with a particular doughnut and we can provide you with
ingredient information. I am attaching to the bottom of this email the
most current ingredient legend which includes information on the next
featured doughnut.
Your third question was, "Do all of franchisees participate?" Our
distribution center does not supply any nut products to any of our stores.
No nut based products are on our standard or optional product menu.
However, there are two associate stores, one in Scranton, PA and the other
in Kingsport, TN, that make peanut products. Scranton makes a peanut
stick and Kingsport makes a cake doughnut, topped with chocolate and/or
vanilla icing, and dipped in peanuts. They buying their nuts from a local
vendor. Because of the issues involved with offering such a product, they
will be removing those offering from their menu selection. All of our
other locations are "nut free."
I do hope that I was able to answer your questions. If you think of
anything else, please don't hesitate to contact us again.
Thank you for your patience.
Best regards,

Krispy Kreme Customer Experience
Can we all email these folks and thank them for being so allergy aware!
I'm impressed that they are taking steps to remove peanuts from the 2 franchises that include peanuts - obviously someone near the top of that organization truly cares about us, the customer..
Thanks for gathering and posting this info. Now if only they'd open up closer to my house.
Interesting posts about the amaretto!
Yes, Bravo to Krispy Kreme for their good work! Excellent email program and responses. Tim Hortons can learn a thing or two from these guys (Tim's dont even accept emails!).
Can't wait til they finally arrive in Canada later this year!
There must be something to this company. I heard on the news last night that they are opening in Denver today (at 5:30 a.m.) and people were camping out!
Since my daughter is going to the zoo later today - I'm taking Philip over there to enjoy the goodies! Not close enough to my house - but worth an outing.
I was just at Krispy Kreme yesterday and noticed the big posters advertising the new amaretto flavored donuts. I was so depressed; especially since it looks identical to many of their other "filled" donuts. I am so thrilled to find out that they truly are as allergy aware as they have claimed to be, and that the almond flavoring is artificial. Hooray! I agree that we should let them know how much we appreciate their efforts. And yes, their donuts are so yummy and delicious!!!
Krispy Kreme will be opening a store/factory in Mississauga, Ontario next year...and that's just the beginning. Yahoo!!!!
I heard we're getting one in the Boston area on the 128 belt somewhere by the end of the year. I'll have to try to find out exactly where.
I am sitting here with tears in my eyes. My son can eat a donut! A yummy, yummy Krispy Kreme donut to boot. I never even guessed a franchised donut company coul dbe so allergy aware. Here, in Northeast Ohio, they sell Krispy Kremes in some of our convenience stores. Every sunday, after church, they sell Krispy Kreme donuts, and always drag my PA son out while his little friend stays. This is amazing! I am so happy that I finally upgraded my home computer and can surf this site more.
This is great, I hope. When Krispy Kreme came to the Metro Detoit area I asked about peanuts and was told that they use a vegetable oil that contains peanut oil. I will go back and ask again--maybe that employee made a mistake! I'll let y
ou know what I find out. Thanks, Jeanne
I hate to scare people, but I noticed something at our ACME market late one evening and thought I'd share it. Our Acme sells Krispy kreme doughnuts in boxes. I read about them here and once Alex outgrowns his egg allergy I plan to eat them until they come out my ears. Any way, late one night I was walking by the bakery, an employee was taking all the dougnuts, crossionts, cookies...out of the bakery cases and putting them in bakery boxes for sale as packages. I saw her use the same tongs to pickup peanut butter cookies, muffins with walnuts and doughnuts that she put in Krispy Kreme boxes!!! I asked her if the doughnuts in the front of the store came factory sealed or where put in boxes like I saw. She was CLUELESS. And flippant. I called the bakery manager twice and never heard from them. I ended up never following through since Alex can't eat them due to egg allergy but when I read about everyone enjoying them I just wanted to warn to the CHECK it out with your supermarket if that is how you purchase them> Sorry to cause alarm!
