Tide, Bounce, Downy...

Very interesting...
I had no idea peanut oil was used in fragrance!! When my son was eight months old he was covered from head to toe with excema. One of the many changes I made at the time was switching to fragrance and dye free detergent. I have been using it for the entire family ever since. My favorite is ALL!

I'm shocked!! A company our family has worked for for years!! I love how Tide cleans your clothes, I think they are superior to other products, but we also had to change after I married my husband because he broke out into hives from the Tide. I always thought it was because of the enzymes in the Tide, it was very common for employees to be tested for enzyme sensitivity yearly at Procter and Gamble and if you became allergic you were transferred to another department.
After we had Morgan, we found we had problems with Downey and Bounce but never knew why? hhhmm She would break out in rashes and her eczema would get real bad. We now use Sunlight (which I hate, it doesn't get clothes all that clean), and Fleecy Original fabric softener. Maybe I should try the ALL as suggested above!

That really is shocking! Is it written on the product anywhere that is contains peanut oil or is it just listed as fragrances? I also use All Free and Clear and have for years. My oldest son used to get rashes from other detergents.

Would this count as an exposure? We've used Bounce every wash day since we've been married!!!!!! Our son's eczema was terrible from the first week home. It's gotten better, but never gone away (he's 4 now). Guess we'll be finding something else!!!

This is just insane, why would you put peanut oil in a detergent. I wonder what else it is in that just lists fragrance? Just another thing I can be paranoid about.

Wow! I just can't believe this. Who the heck would've figured?!?!?!?! I've been using Tide (liquid and powder) mountain fresh scent for about 2 years. I use Bounce fabric softener sheets also. When Joe was a few weeks old, he had little bumps all over his body. The pediatrician recommended using that special baby detergent-Dreft I think it was called. But that got too expensive and time consuming. Well this is just a kick-in-the-pants, I really don't have the resources to be buying special laundry detergent. I'm looking forward to reading about what other people use.

I agree - it does sound insane! The only reason I can come up with, is that nut oils in particular (almond, peanut) are excellent "carrier" oils to distribute fragrance evenly.
Nut oils are often recommended for use in conjunction with concentrated "essences" - 10 drops of concentrated rose oil combined with 1/4 cup of almond oil is supposed to be an effective moisturizer.
It must be included as a "distributor" for the concentrated fragrance. Now they need to explore other options for oils!

I use Arm & Hammer detergent and I use Cling Free dryer sheets (when on sale or I have a coupon!) or our local Stop&Shop supermarket dryer sheets. So far, we've had no problems. I do so much laundry that I found the A&H detergent was more of a value than any other detergent!
