we eat at one in NYC. You are right, they do have peanut dishes (such as the Thai Chicken Pizza, etc.) but we are comfortable there.
ANd they are a really kid friendly restaurant that has halfway decent food (unlike the fast food chains my kids seem to love as well!)

I'm not surprised California pizza kitchen is so vigilant about PA. It was there, I believe, that a PA or TN woman died after eating a piece of pizza that had crushed nuts all over it.
What happened to the 'Search' function on this website? I think I read that story here.

I never heard that story. why did she have a pizza with crushed nuts all over it if she were PA or TNA? Was it that she was unaware of the allergy or that she didn't know the pizza she ordered had nuts on it?
IT would really be helpful when posting such frightening news to provide reputable sources for your information, otherwise I think they just provoke panic and could well be just urban legends.

I do not eat pizzas there any more because I used to feel a little sick after I ate there. A friend of mine ordered the Thai Chicken Pizza. I suspect the fact the same person made that one and then made mine is what caused the problem. I did not tell them about my PA. I do enjoy pastas there. Andy

Welll, let's see here. At one point in the past two years, I had over 200 online references to peanut allergies. Where in that bulk of information I found that story is very hard to say. I thought it may have been mentioned here, but after 3 hours of looking at every single posting on this website since March of 1999, I don't think that it is. More likely, I found that story in a link of a link of a link, if you catch my drift. The reason that story stuck with me is because it is the only case of a peanut (or tree nut, I don't know which, alright?), fatality occurring because of a restaurant. I'll try my best to find that link, but I don't think that is going to happen.
If you sincerely believe that my post is going to cause some kind of "panic," then I can either go back and delete my message, or I can ask Chris if he can remove my post altogehter. Just let me know.
Frankly, if you think that I posted that to be sensational or to start an urban legend, I'm offended.

I by no means think you posted to be sensational or start an urban legend. My concern is that there are always so many posts here with claims of peanuts or peanut products in certain things that people have heard second hand that are not true.
I am sure its quite possible that someone ate something at California Pizza and got sick or died from PA but I am equally sure its not true that this is the only case of a person having a fatal reaction from eating at a restaurant. Those are the kind of statements that cause people to panic, to avoid even more situations for perhaps the wrong reasons. It is true that Californai Pizza Kitchen DOES serve products with nuts. I am sure there is a chance of cross contamination.
If you are a person who avoids all places that have nuts on the menu then this certainly would not be the place for you.
But claiming that a restaurant caused the death of someone without any evidence to back it up is panic provoking, whether intentional or not, in addition to being quite possibly a libelous accusation, again, whether intentional or not.

We have eaten at California Pizza Kitchen many times and have always been comfortable. In fact, my PA son is going there tomorrow with his grandmother. I just wanted people to be aware though that my friends' daughter recently had a reaction there. They ordered out pizza and didn't ask about peanut products. They had eaten there before and forgot to ask. The girl ate the cheese pizza, left the table because of diarrhia (no idea how to spell that) and then got hives on her lips. Her father called the restaurant and spoke to the manager. He said that sometimes if the peanut oil is out (because of Thai Chicken pizza) they will continue to use the peanut oil unless someone has specified not to. If you specify a peanut allergy, they will be extra careful.
Just be careful at California Pizza Kitchen to make sure the restaurant knows you/your child has a peanut allergy. I've already lectured my mother on this one for tomorrow.

We just ate there tonight. I ordered grilled chicken breast from the Kids Menu for my son. I told the waiter my son has food allergies, so I would like to know how it is prepared.
The waiter asked what he's allergic to, and when I said peanuts and sesame, the guy immediately nodded his head and said they will prepare it separately, using all clean utensils. It was obvious he was very familiar with this.
Later, when he brought the food, without me even asking, he mentioned that it was prepared especially for a peanut-allergic person. I liked that it seemed like a part of their routine, no need for me to explain anything.

SandryY, would it be the Oak Brook facility or one downtown (not sure if there is one)? Been wondering about trying this establishment...... We usually go once without cubs just to check out places.

MB, it's the one at Old Orchard Mall (is that in Skokie?).
The menu includes many dishes that contain peanuts and sesame, so for people who don't want their kids to even be around it, this restaurant wouldn't be a good choice.
