Victoria,
I like your plan so far. Just off the top of my head I would also include something about assemblies. We have had a pioneer day and a volcano assembly- both of which contained food items.
Does Mick's classroom have telephones? How will help be summoned in case of emergency? I think it was CarolynM who posted about the peanut card in the classroom. Basically it is a big card with a picture of a peanut on it and in case of a reaction the teacher can just instruct a child to grab it and run it to the office. This way a young child does not have to explain the emergency.
Also encourage Mick to be the one responsible to bring his pack when he leaves the classroom. Of course it is the teachers responsibility to ensure he does not forget. Rachel's kindergarten teacher would gently remind Rachel to go and get it if she forgot. She would then directly hand it to the adult in charge.
Also did you address the computer keyboard being cleaned before Mick uses it?
Also see if the school can make addotional copies of the food policy. When parents ask or show up with food, this is an easy way for the teacher to remind them without putting theteacher in the middle of a fight.
That's all i can think of for now.
Take care,
Linda

Hi Linda,
Thanks for your reply. I will try to answer your questions.
Mick's school is a small private one and does not have assemblies at this time.
There is a telephone in his classroom. His Emergency Health Care Plan will be hanging next to it. It contains instructions on what to do for minor and major reactions, contact numbers, his medical history, etc. The back of it has a diagram of how to use the EpiPen. School has been instructed to give this paper to the paramedics. There will be a copy of this Plan posted by all phones. We are working on something similar to CarolynM's sign idea. I really liked it!
Mick has done a really good job this year at preschool with reminding the teachers to bring his Epi pack wherever he goes. They give him a chance to ask for it, but if he forgets, they say something like, "Are we forgetting anything before we go to the gym?"
Cleaning the key board is listed under number 13.
I like the food policy idea. I will ask for it at our meeting in May.
Thanks again for all of your help. We greatly appreciate it.

Victoria,
It looks great. Another thing I found helpful in the meeting was to emphasize that the 504 is a work in progress. That if you or the teacher feel something isn't working or isn't covered that a change can be made. I think Rachel's plan has been changed three times this year ( mostly to clarify things).
Take care,
Linda

travelplus, can't speak on vic's behalf right now (or ever really), but she isn't posting anymore. I'm fairly clear that her 504 Plan did get implemented. Even for her non-PA child, she ended up with a lot of "accommodations" because she didn't want the non-PA child eating peanut products, etc.
There are a LOT of great 504 Plans posted on this board. I picked vic's to re-raise because dianelynn was looking for something in Michigan.

Great plan! I just took a lot of notes since I'm just sitting down to write my own 504.
