Does anyone know of any alternatives to worchestershire sauce? My kids have peanut/tree nut and soy allergies. Please help!

Regarding Worcestershire sauce...
You could make your own. The essential ingredients seem to be vinegar, molasses, tamarind, and anchovy. Being vegetarian, I don't go for anchovies.

Do a word find for "worcestershire", or scroll down 7/8 of the way through that lengthy page. There's a recipe there and also a recipe for soy-free soy sauce. I use marmite for my soy-free soy sauce, too, but I always mix it with mirin when using it.
You might also contact Angostura. They have a worcestershire sauce which appears to be soy-free and hasn't caused me to swell up and die yet (I only use it in *small* amounts, though, so that could matter... I do normally react to things made from soy, no matter how small, though).
Good luck!

My child has essentially the same allergies as yours & I was *so* sad to give up my Lea & Perrin because I love worcestershire sauce so much... I lived w/out it for a while & then found out that French's brand doesn't contain soy sauce (or whatever the soy ingredient was that caused us to give up Lea & Perrin). I did not check for cross contamination & stuff like that, but we have been using it for years now w/ no problem. Might be worth checking into!

well I'm allergic to anchovies, so any replacement would be great!
Last time my hubby used it, I had to get out of the house, just because of the smell.

krasota...thanks for the link to the veggie site. We're not vegetarians but do eat "vegetarian" frequently.
krasota...I clicked and searched as you suggested but the recipe for the Veggie Worcestershire Sauce can't be found. Anyone else have this problem? If someone does get the recipe, could you post it? Thanks.

I just checked and the recipe is there. It's about six page-ups from the bottom of the page. And don't search the entire website, just do a word-find (I'm on a Mac and just hit apple-F. You might be able to hit alt-F or ctrl-F).
When you click on the URL, do you get "KMD: Advice for veg teen with soy allergy"?
I won't post it because the author is published and there are copyright issues. I don't want to cause legal issues for this site, nor myself.
Now, I'd be happy to *email* the text to you if you email me.

Oh, goodness, I thought I'd updated my profile, but it lists my info from *two* homes ago. EEEK! I'll fix that today.
I'm glad you found the recipe. You might also check with Angostura brand to see if it's safe or not.
