I am new to the forum but not new to the struggle. My PA son is 5. He starts kindergarten in the Fall. I am learning that I cannot have too much support in this battle against food allergies.

My son had a reaction to a cake mix this past week. It was our 1st reaction (beyond a skin reaction) since he was very young. You can read about it here:

Welcome to! Sorry it's under such stressful circumstances.
Thank you for posting your story on Duncan Hines cake mix. I'm sure it is an eye opener for parents of food allergic children. You just can never be too sure.
I hope your son is feeling better now and that YOU and your husband are feeling better. I know it's a very scary thing.
For others wondering what you can do regarding packaged foods:
1. you can try to home bake home make your foods as much as possible and use processed foods as little as possible.
2. you can call companies to find out what their manufacturing processes are. Are there allergens in the facility, on the same line, etc. Keep in mind you might not always get the right answers or the right person giving you the information.
3. you can purchase foods only from companies who go above and beyond to make sure their product is safe by doing thorough cleanings and allergen testing or by making allergen free products to begin with.
We are lucky that more and more companies are popping up that truly get allergies and are making allergy safe products.
Again Jane-thanks for sharing your story!
