On Monday my five year old daughter was diagnosed with a peanut allergy. She was being tested for seasonal allergies and we learned she is allergic to peanuts. My daughter has always hated peanuts, has never wanted to try peanut butter. She has a twin brother who we can't keep out of the peanut butter or peanuts at the Texas Road House. My daughter has been to the Texas Road House for or five times and never had any problems. I guess her allergy isn't a contact allergy but if she swallows it, it would cause a reaction. Last Friday night her Daddy gave her a small peice of trail mix granola bar and within seconds she said her tongue tingled. Now we know why! We now carry an epi-pen and she has one in school. So I'm new to all this. Would love to hear from others, tips, advice, suggestions. My daughter feels as if her world has been turned upside down. I don't know what kind of treats she can have now for special occasions...etc. At school today she was moved to a "peanut free" table for lunch, made her feel sad to think she can't eat with her classmates. Question, does your kids have a bracelet to wear to alert others of the PA? I was looking at them at Amazon.com... should it be some thing to look into?

Thanks!!

WOW... what does one have to do around here to get a reply... not much of a forum is it?? I guess I'll have to look for another discussion group to join.

The first thing I did was check out all the books I could at the library. that was very helpful. Also, check out FAAN's website and join a local allergy support group in your area if they have one. Our's is great, they have food free holiday events and parent chats etc. In the beginning it is crazy scary, but as time goes on you learn what is safe/not safe and it gets easier to manage. When my son started school we got him an allergy bracelet. We had to try several kinds to find one he thought was comfortable. Here are some book I found helpful
How to manage your child's life-threatening food allergies : practical tips for everyday life / Linda Marienhoff Coss.
How to live with a nut allergy : everything you need to know if you are allergic to peanuts or tree nuts / Chad K. Oh and Carol Kennedy.
The complete peanut allergy handbook / Scott H. Sicherer and Terry Malloy.
The parent's guide to food allergies : clear and complete advice from the experts on raising your food-allergic child / Marianne S. Barber, with Maryanne Bartoszek Scott and Elinor Greenberg ; foreword by Hugh A. Sampson.
Food Allergies for Dummies – Robert A Wood.
