Rhee Bros., Inc. Issues Allergy Alert on Undeclared Egg in "Margaret" Brand Korean Cookies
Columbia, MD - October 19, 2001 -- Rhee Bros., Inc. of Columbia, MD, is recalling its 8.04 ounce packages of "Margaret" brand Korean cookies because they contain undeclared egg. People who have allergies to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
The recalled "Margaret" brand Korean cookies were distributed nationwide in Asian food retail stores. The product comes in an 8.04 ounce, cardboard box marked with 'Lotte Margaret' and 'Soft Cookies'. Its item number is 09828K on the label.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The recall was initiated after sampling by New York state food inspectors discovered that the egg-containing product was distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of egg.
Consumers who have purchased 8.04 ounce packages of "Margaret" are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-410-381-9000.

Arlington, WA - October 26, 2001 -- Islands Bakery of Arlington, WA is recalling Trader Joe's Brand Multi Seed Bread and the following Islands Bakery Brand loaf breads because they may contain undeclared egg: Old Fashion Oat, Sunflower Barley, Honey Wheat, Wheat Berry, 7 Grain, Health, Seed, Jalapeno Cheese, Honey Spelt, White, Wheat, Caraway Rye, Sourdough French, Cracked Wheat, Multi Grain, Oat & Wheat Berry and Apricot Walnut. People who have allergies to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
Islands Bakery Brand breads and Trader Joe's Brand Multi Seed Bread are distributed in the greater Puget Sound, WA area in retail stores.
The loaf breads are in clear bags with a white paper label dated in the right bottom corner 10 31 or earlier.
No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that the egg containing products were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of eggs. All egg use has been discontinued unless so labeled.

Dinstuhl's Candies Recalls Assorted Chocolate Covered Nuts, and Peanut Butter Bars
Memphis, TN (SafetyAlerts) - The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said that Dinstuhl's Candies is recalling 300 boxes of Assorted Chocolates and Assorted Chocolate Covered Nuts, because they may contain undeclared milk. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products.
This is the first public notice of this Class I recall issued by the FDA.
Assorted Chocolates, and Assorted Chocolate Covered Nuts was distributed in Dinstuhl's Candy Stores in the Memphis area and informed customers by a sign placed in each store.
These boxes can be identified as a gold box labeled "Gold Select" and "Gold Select" with an attached label of "Assorted Nuts".
There have been no reported cases of illness connected to the sale of either of these items.
The recall was initiated after it was discovered that products containing milk were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk.
Customers who purchased this product in error may return unopened product from its place of purchase for a full refund.

Georgia Establishment Recalls Pork Skin Products
Lawrenceville, Ga. (SafetyAlerts) - United States Department of Agriculture, Food Safety and Inspection Service, (FSIS) said that Rudolph Foods Company is recalling approximately 420 pounds of pork skin products because they contain undeclared coloring and flavoring ingredients, including monosodium glutamate (MSG).
This is the first public notice of this Class llI recall issued by the FSIS.
MSG is used as a flavor enhancer in a variety of foods prepared at home, in restaurants, and by food processors. Some persons who have eaten foods containing MSG have reported adverse reactions.
The product being recalled is 2 1/8 oz., clear bags of "Frito Lay CHICHARRONES BAKEN-ETS BRAND FRIED PORK SKINS TRADITIONAL." Each bag bears package code "14A12952," establishment code "EST 1425," and a "GUARANTEED FRESH UNTIL PRINTED DATE" of "DEC 25".
The product was produced on Oct. 22, 2001, and distributed to retail establishments in Miami and Jacksonville, Florida.

The Raisin Pound Cake was distributed to retail stores throughout Brooklyn, NY.
The Raisin Pound Cake was wrapped in clear, cellophane packages without any codes, in 14 oz. and 2 lb. sizes. This product has a shelf life of 7-14 days. The recall covers product that did not list eggs in the ingredient statement. Product labeling has been revised. Product that declares eggs on the labeling is not affected by this recall.
No illnesses have been reported to date.
The recall was initiated after the State of Florida discovered that the product containing eggs was distributed in packaging that did not declare the presence of eggs. A follow up inspection by the FDA revealed that the problem was due to an error by the manufacturer to declare eggs on the product label.
Consumers who have purchased Raisin Pound Cake that does not declare eggs are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions may contact the company at 1-718-330-1000.

frozen cinnamon biscuits with icing because they contain undeclared milk.
The products are sold in packages of seven in blue-speckled tins with brown
and blue lids.
The affected products were distributed in various grocery stores in
Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas,
and West Virginia.
