Update on peanut allergy and treatments
Thursday, September 1, 2005

Allergist Michael Young M.D., author of "The Peanut Allergy Answer Book," will provide an update on research and treatment for peanut and other food allergies at a meeting sponsored by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America/ New England Chapter (AAFA/NE), on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. The program is free and open to the public.

"The prevalence of food allergies has increased significantly in recent years, particularly among children," says Sharon Schumack, health education coordinator for AAFA/NE, "and there are new treatments being developed that can reduce the risk of severe reactions." Her organization organizes educational support group programs throughout the region, publishes information, and runs a telephone resource and referral line for people coping with allergies and asthma.
